If there was a social gathering, why not go? There was no reason to sit in her room and read or study all day. Taking breaks was an important part of any sort of training, and there was no harm in getting to know her classmates. Agnes placed a small bookmark fashioned after a local lucky charm in her reading material and closed it; upon standing and pushing her desk chair in, she made sure to open the blinds on her windowsill so that her basil, oregano, and thyme plants would get what natural sunlight they could. She was already dressed in a simple yukata for the day, colored in a dull grey with a blue flower motif, and if she slipped sandals on that would suffice. Agnes wasn't trying to be formal or especially presentable, so she did not bother to wear her mask on her head either.
It occurred to her as she walked towards the dorm room on the ground floor that she hadn't really spent much of her time at Haven so far socializing, and she chastised herself in her head for that. At least now I'm remedying it, she thought. Each step she had made down the stairs and hallways had been accompanied by a light, cute jingling, a symptom of the bell ornaments she often wore in her hair. As she reached the door, she noticed that it was already somewhat ajar, and Agnes peeked her head in to see who all was here and what they were up two. There were two people playing a video game - the man was very bad at it, but the woman was playing it like it was second nature. Agnes' sleepy expression soured just a bit at that. The rest of them were playing a card game about putting together nonsensical things and arguing over whose would win, from what she could put together. There were snacks and drinks in the room, which she was grateful for. Mostly because she hadn't eaten that day, but also because it gave her a conversation topic to fall back on if she truly had nothing in common with any of these people.
With poise she pushed the door open enough for herself to slip into the dorm room. "Good afternoon, everyone," she announced, being absolutely certain to be loud enough so that everyone could hear her. "I hope we can all get along well today." One of her fox's ears twitched atop her head, an unfortunate consequence of a tiny itch. She tried to ignore it and strode across the room, coming to stand halfway between the video game setup and the card game. Her eyes wandered until they came to rest on the man and woman playing the dancing game. She wasn't sure what it was, since she hadn't really played video games since she was a very young child, but she had resolved to take an interest anyway. In a congenial tone and accompanied by a small smile, she asked "What game is this?"
Qiu'li was panicking as he watched his bar quickly fall into the blaring red zone. It seemed like rhythm based games were not his forte. At all. Despite the ensuing taunting that the disembodied voice from the screen was shouting at him, he continued his best, and as Niraya continued to instruct him on how to play, Qiu'li slowed down and tried to match the rhythm, following instead of the game's prompts, but Niraya's instead.
He was a visual learner, after all, and watching Niraya's movements and mimicking hers made the experience somewhat more manageable, putting him in the yellow region by the time the music had finished. Never before had Qiu'li sweat so much over a game. Then again it was one that required both coordination of the body, timing, and some level of skill.
As the song concluded, another screen flashed open with a calculation of numbers and letters on each side, most likely displaying their scored performances. Finally, a giant letter grade appeared for each person, with Niraya's side having a flashy colored A+ rank and Qiu'li's a dull D- rank. After some rambling, Qiu'li stepped off the pad real quick to catch his breath, sitting on the floor.
Suddenly the light was slightly blocked out as a fox-Faunus appeared behind him, inquiring about the video game that they were playing. Qiu'li blinked. Seems like he's encountered a number of Faunus recently, starting with his first meeting with Niraya, his second with Huli, and now this one. Well, not like it mattered much to him whether or not one had animal features. If they were capable of thought and reason, they were just as human as the next.
"Dance game... Feet on arrow, rhythm. Not very good, it seems." He said as gazed at the new face. Qiu'li couldn't say he recalled seeing her face before, though it was possible he would see her again in the future. Might as well introduce himself since coming here to socialize was one of his personal goals. He stood up and held his hand out. "Qiu'li. Want play?" He offered his spot since he was ready to get refreshments.

Niraya Platinum When snow falls, Nature listens.

Niraya did her best to get Qui'li into the rhythm of the game. but he was pretty bad at it. near the end of the song he started to improve to at least stop the taunting. When it was over and the score came up Niraya goes to pat Qui'li's shoulder only to miss as he sat down. Niraya looks down at them then notices a fox faunus standing over Qui'li. Niraya tilts her head her ears perked up and her tail swayed a bit. "Its nice to meet you...ugh...i'm sorry i don't think we have met." It was nice to see another faunus here. she hasn't seen too many. and this one was kinda cute in her little getup. the bells were an interesting choice.
Qui'li offered his position to play and Niraya stands aside. no need to butt into someone elses game if they wanted to play solo. she stayed nearby just incase they wanted to play a duo match. Niraya watches the other fox faunus a bit intrested as it was rare to see two faunus with similar traits that weren't related. especially in a world dominated by human oppression at times.

Well, uh, that didn’t exactly go as expected.
Niraya just kind of blew them both off pretty instantaneously, but not before declaring Elena the winner before letting Ros even get a word in edgewise. She wasn’t offended, though, because it soon became obvious she just wanted to hang out with the other extremely socially awkward guy there. It was definitely still a ‘fuck you, I’m leaving at the earliest opportunity’ sure, but Elena was at least reasonably sure that it wasn’t done maliciously.
And even if it was, who cares? She had done her part by making the effort to try and get people here, and that was enough even if the entire thing ended up being a giant failure. For better or for worse, she was used to being blown off and disrespected, so it didn’t rile her up the same way that it would have a few years ago. She showed up and asked other people to show up, and everything that happened after that was out of her control. There was a momentary closing of the eyes, noticeably longer than a blink, before the girl’s blue gaze went back to Rosario when Niraya decided to ditch them. That and a slightly deeper breath that usual were the only outward signs of any irritation, but largely Elena did a great job at letting it just roll off.
Irritation was a useless emotion. It didn’t do anything except inhibit her ability to do things, frankly. For better or for worse, though, the pinkette at the other end of the table didn’t seem to be bothered in the slightest and went on his own spirited defense on why his side would win. All things considered, it was a pretty good attempt. It got completely off the rails towards the end with the elephants, but it very well might have been enough to sway a third-party judge if one had in fact still existed at that point.
More people began to filter in the room, with one being a shorter gray-haired girl and a dude with two toned hair who was tall enough to just about smash his head through the ceiling in most standard sized houses. The tall guy seemed to have brought a container filled with cupcakes that he was going around the room shilling like it was Free Cupcake Day or something. Hell, for all Elena knew it was free Cupcake day in Mistral. It seemed like some kingdoms had weird as heck holidays for just about everything, the calendar she bought when she got to the capital even had mention of an ice cream day. An entire holiday specifically for ice cream. That was insanity, really, and would have never flown in Vacuo. Not that ice cream would have survived for very long in the desert heat anyway, but the sentiment, you know!
”Thank you for the cupcakes!” she would exclaim when the free cupcake train reached her table, deciding to ignore the testy exchange between the pinkette and the giant. Simply put, she wasn’t there to get dragged into pettiness this early on and would endeavor to avoid it her entire time here if she could. Instead of reaching in with her hand, though, a tendril of shadow would instead go into the box and unpeel one of the cupcakes from its wrapper before pulling it out. No crumbs would spill to the floor due to the solidified shadow encasing the cupcake, but that outer layer was removed for a few moments to just admire the aesthetics of the treat before the tendril moved in close enough for her to take a bite of the sugary treat. As she did, though, another shorter Faunus girl entered the room looking like she just rolled out of bed and was only halfway awake. Honestly, Elena sympathized. Being a shadow manipulator forced to wake up early in the morning was counterproductive as best, so she was exhausted throughout most of her early classes.
She always found that sugar tended to give her a short term attention spike, but that it wore off extremely quickly unlike the enduring focus that something like coffee gave her. She felt the need to move around just a bit more when that initial rush of energy that sugar provided hit for the first time, too, so she decided to turn in her chair and gesture to the rest of the room for the benefit of all new arrivals… and to get that jittery sort of frantic sugar rush energy out of her system in a constructive way. ”Got tons of snacks and drinks here – the TV hooks up to four dance pads max if you want to use those. There’s also tons of board games and decks of cards if you want to get a game going there as well.” she offered, presenting the words more as a sales pitch than an actual tour before leaning over and taking another bite of the cupcake that was still suspended in the air by her shadow construct.
A quick glance over to the television screen was enough to notice that the awkward Faunus girl was at least somewhat coordinated… but the awkward brunette seemed to have no such physical ability and was missing the vast majority of the cues. She couldn’t clearly hear the feedback he was getting from the game itself, but the subtitles were rude as hell and she momentarily regretted picking out a game that seemed to insult people for doing badly. She had just kind of grabbed what was available without thinking, and that poor guy was being bullied by a television screen at this point.
Oh well. You live, and you learn. Blue eyes looked back to Rosario to see if he was up for continuing without a judge or if he wanted to do something else, because the last thing she wanted to do at this point was blow anyone off or make them feel unwelcome. While friends would be nice, she at least wanted to get a feel for how some of her classmates were outside of classes where everyone was understandably trying their best and presenting a front to some degree. Everyone wanted to show the teachers how tough they could be and why they were worthy of getting their license even this early on, but at the end of the day she’d be spending the next several years with these people, so it would behoove her and really everyone else to get to know as many of their class as possible as early as possible. Teams were going to be a thing at some point, and Elena didn’t want to get left in the dust when that happened.
