"Back." Heidi said breezily as she strode back into camp, a few thick bundles of dry fall balanced on one shoulder. She hadn't needed to go far for the wood; The outcropping which Nasrin had built their shelter on was surrounded by trees, rising above them like a stony finger thrust from the verdant green. Finding suitable firewood had been as simple as walking a hundred steps in any direction and looking for what laid on the ground. She'd found quite a lot of it, as it happened, far more than she thought they would need even if they were planning to spend a whole week in Haven forest. Which, given the events of the past couple of hours, Heidi might even have liked.
Passing by Nasrin, who sat upon a the single stone on the outcrop suitable to the purpose, Heidi's fingers danced lightly over the smaller woman's shoulders, from one side to the other. Then, with a consummate ease, Heidi deposited the wood she'd been carrying beside their shelter in a somewhat untidy pile. She unslung the satchel next and, turning to face her companion, plucked out the two water bottles within.
"I found a stream," She told Nasrin, smiling easily, "Though we should probably boil it first; I don't suppose you packed a pot."
Jackie, for all her obsessive practicality, had not thought to do so, and Heidi had only the one unopened water bottle remaining. Which she handed to Nasrin, before tipping the one which remained, full of spring water, up to her mouth. The tall woman smiled. Whatever the state of the spring water, it was unlikely to do her any harm. It would take more than a bit of dirt break her constitution. Besides, it was thirsty work, gathering wood... And everything else.
"How's the leg?" Heidi asked, dropping down to her haunches beside the seated huntress. While the rest of her had dried, her sweater and her skirt were still dark with damp from her recent dip in the mountain stream. She'd even managed to get the last of the tangles out of her hair, and it now hung heavy with wet about her shoulders and face. It had been a couple of hours, at least, since the fight with the ursa minor, so Nasrin's aura should have been well onto it's way to recovering, but Heidi, having never had to deal with things like injuries or bruises, wasn't wholly sure how long such things usually lasted. She was still hoping to get back out into the forest, to maybe do some hunting before dark, and made her desire for company plainly known.
"Oh, I almost forgot." Heidi reached back into the waist band of her skirt, which more closely resembled a loin cloth with how tattered it had become after its short time in the wilderness, and plucked out the spray can she'd taken with her.
"I put 'X's on the trees like you suggested. A whole line of them, from here all the way to the stream."
She shook the can, which made a quiet rattle, "Still some left, I think."
She wondered what a passer by might think when they stumbled across the markings she and Nasrin had made. Perhaps the Xs they would dismiss as trail markers, despite their bright pink hue. The roses on the other hand, painted in Nasrin's practiced hand, were a little less explicable.
There was an awful lot of roses around their camp, Heidi had noticed, not just the ones they had passed on their first trip back. Nasrin must have been quite busy, even before she'd run into Jackie.
"I saw some tracks by the water," Heidi went on, standing and turning back to the wood pile, "Deep, four-clawed. Might be beowolves. Might be a pack of them, just past the stream."
She glanced back and grinned a bright grin, eyes glittering in the midday sun, "Might be worth the look, once you're feeling up to it."
Heidi could not wait to to get into another fight, and she did not bother to hide it. As good as her time with Nasrin had been for blowing off some steam, there was nothing quite like dusting a few grimm to make her feel truly alive. Dusting those grimm, and watching a lovely young woman do the same... Well, that was practically heaven, so far as Heidi was concerned. If Jackie had only packed some whiskey, her day could have been truly complete. Whiskey, and some cigarettes, damn her.
Still, she would make do, at least until the trial was over.
"You're not a vegetarian, are you?" Heidi asked, as she hefted a few stones into a rough circle a decent distance from their shelter, in a tone that made it quite clear what she thought of a vegetarian diet.
"Been thinking about what to do for dinner," She elaborated, without waiting for Nasrin's answer, "There's deer around as well. Shouldn't be much trouble for me to run one down. Do you have a knife?"
As she spoke, Heidi crumbled one of the logs she'd brought back into the fire pit, crushing and tearing the dried wood in her bare hands, just as though it was made of especially sturdy cardboard. Having rendered half of it into kindling, she proceeded to strip down the rest until she'd made a small pyramid. At last, Heidi layered a few more sticks atop the pile and, before long, had a small fire constructed and ready to be lit. She'd clearly done it before.
Standing, Heidi flexed her hands and brushed off the splinters, then laced her fingers behind her head and leaned back, soaking in the sunshine. She cut an especially impressive figure. Skin, uniformly tanned, glowed like beaten copper as her lustrous brown hair danced back to life around her hands and shoulders, already mostly dry. The remnants of Jackie's sweater hugged her tightly, especially in the shoulders and chest. Having removed the last shreds of sleeve from the garment, Heidi's strong arms were bare all the way to the shoulder, exposing even the dark lines of tattoo on her left bicep. She'd taken off her shoes some time earlier, not long after she and Nasrin had agreed to the terms of their newly formed relationship, and had not bothered to put them back on, and so now stood with bare feet spread wide apart. Her skirt, similarly modified, now had a tear up the right side to match the one on the left, and the pleated remains had been torn short to just above Heidi's knees. So, she'd claimed, she wouldn't have to risk tripping over it if they got into another fight. She looked rough, almost primal, but was happier for having as much skin as possible exposed. She would not have minded going around entirely naked, but she liked this look better, thought it looked wild and untamed, which were both things which greatly pleased Heidi.
