While the Monkey Cong reference was definitely lost on the Hellebore Heiress, the crowds and the announcers around and above them would surely find them amusing and entirely apt.
Or well, they would if they could actually hear anything.
It was a shame the last time they tried using mics in the arena went so poorly! The look on Rose’s face when she told her joke made it pretty clear she’d just told one hell of a knee-slapper.
And the sound of the crowd and Mr. Soot as the rocks came tumbling down was one hell of a reaction, even if it wasn’t quite a slapping of knees. ”Whoa! Check out all that strength! Man, it was on full display, last fight, but it never fails to amaze and astound! She just smashed the mountain down on them! Gutsy! I love it!”
His co-host was more reserved in his reaction, offering only a faint smile, and a nod. His eyes, however, were settled on the ascendant team, where Heidi was viciously ripping her way up the rocks through brute force and sheer will alone, Nasrin trailing behind, just barely able to keep up with the hulking Atlesian.
Her lone hand rose up, though, projecting a barrier in front of Heidi, as she moved, shielding the larger girl from the tumbling tectonic torrent trickling towards the two of them.
Unfortunately, she was unable to avoid the flurry herself, taking the damage from the clever environmental attack as the fast-flying stones smashed through her barrier- providing an opening for Rose’s next attack, as a beam of fiery, lightning-infused, dust came hurtling down at Heidi.
The attack struck, landing a commendable blow against the taller girl’s torso, and widening the small smile on Gorm’s wizened old face a hair.
Because while that attack would have, and by all rights, should have been devastating for most combatants, Adelheid Bariole was certainly not most combatants.
Taking it fully in stride, it almost seemed as if the attack only spurred her on further, with a sparse 4% of her Aura burning off, even as the Dust crackled against her body.
But HARP wasn’t done with their one-sided onslaught just yet, and even Gorm was forced to turn his eyes from his former student to the regal blonde poised atop the mountain, staring down at her prey like a stately eagle.
Her absurdly large weapon crashed into the mountain, as Rose’s had, but this time, she let them stay in place, as she rose up, reaching into the sky- right into the storm.
A dazzling blast of lightning crashed down onto her, right into the palms of her outstretched hands, as thunder, louder than any student’s semblance thus far, rocked the arena.
”Oh ****!!! Holy- Wow!!!”
”...Language… This time the admonishment was muted, and with less annoyance than the first- Gorm, too, was stunned by what he saw.
Ashton was on the edge of his seat, staring, and so was most of the audience.
The mountain biome was a favorite, not for the long, stretched out, climbing races, most of which dragged on for far too long, but because of the storm brewing overhead. It was intended as a pitfall, an environmental hazard to raise the stakes and add some excitement, as well as ambience, to the rare fight at the tallest peak.
It was never used directly as a weapon, like this, though!
To do so was damn near insane, but here they were. ”She’s a damn thunder goddess! Whoa! I’m speechless.”
”Aye, I agree, lad… I’ve known many a lightning wielder in my years, but for a first year, harnessing that much raw power- it’s right impressive, even if just for th’boldness she’s showin’.”
And bold, it was- it was a risky gamble, but it paid off, allowing her to lash out at both of BCSN’s team members with a powerful electric attack, and the ensuing rock slide, as she directed the force of the lightning into her swords, shattering the earth beneath them- and beneath the opposing team’s feet.
Nasrin wasn’t quite able to throw up a barrier in time, and she paid the cost with another blow to her Aura, this one smaller, as she hadn’t been forced to absorb a direct hit to her barrier this time. She was just quick enough, though, to divert the damage from more vulnerable spots, reducing the damage a bit.
Heidi, on the other hand, scarcely let the stones, or the shocks, affect her, forcing her way through the attack with sheer tenacity alone- the stones struck her, but brushed off of her incredibly dense Aura, without piercing the hardened outer shell.
The two were slowed down by the attack, but in due time, they were able to clamor to the top eventually- HARP, however, had all the time in the world to devise a strategy for meeting them as they approached, and if they chose to do so, they would likely still hold their advantage, even as BCSN neared the peak, at long last.
They were still at a disadvantage, as they finished climbing, but were able to use their time effectively, focusing entirely on their ascent, which allowed them to reach the peak very quickly, indeed, at a full sprint to the top, over the shattered stones which dug at Heidi’s heels- though Nasrin, thankfully, was able to bypass the annoyance by hovering above the earthen caltrops.
While HARP had the upper hand here, as the pair reached the last few steps of their climb to the top, and could very likely escape down the mountain if needed, their use of this time would be critical to the rest of the match. They’d been racing at full tilt for a while now, and Nasrin, Heidi, and Theia would begin to feel the effects first- Heidi, moreso than the others-, while Rose could probably keep going at full strength long after the others gave out.
Time was on their side, and outlasting Heidi’s powerful transformation was a winning strategy so far. But for how long, could they keep it up?
