As I began walking towards Ruqa, I couldn’t help but notice a strange vibration beneath my feet. Focusing my view. I saw how the last car of the Argus limited was slowly left behind in the distance. A very angry-looking swordsman, shaking his fist in rage. But making to attempt to catch up.
An evil part of me couldn’t help but smile. Hoping that whatever other swarm these fuckers accidentally attracted would end up swallowing that fucker whole. Jet fucking deserved to be left alone and without backup, in the middle of nowhere and with monsters looming in the distance.
Served him right. I hoped that was the last we saw of him.
Now, speaking of monsters, Ruqa was still doing her best to hold off the acid-spitting Grimm. But she wouldn’t hold on forever. Luckily, she didn’t have to.
Falling from the sky. A very well-known and very welcomed figure stepped in to get the Azul huntress out of dodge. Argent Steele, now that’s what I was talking about when I said reinforcements. Things would surely go smoother now than we had such a heavy-hitter at our side.
But as he launched Ruqa to safety. I couldn’t help but notice that now he was the one being put at a standstill by the centinels. It was still a worthy exchange, in my opinion. As Argent was likely fresher and in better shape than us, so it was likely that he could take a couple more hits than Ruqa right then.
The snake faunus was doing a great job at dodging the corrosive projectiles. But sooner or later, something was going to give, which meant someone would need to do something to help him as early as possible.
Calling a thin mantle of my earth towards me. I covered my arms and legs with the malleable substance, using it as braces as I painstakingly used my now much heavier spear as a cane. I needed to approach the mass of Grimm for a good shot, I knew I only had one, so I wanted to make it count.
Luckily, Kishka seemed to have the same idea. Zooming towards Argent, standing between him and the Grimm shooting at them. But she was still taking hits, and sooner or later, even someone as durable as her would start melting down.
To make matters worse. It was also quite clear that the acid attacks were damaging the integrity of the tracks... That probably wasn’t good. So I still moved forward, putting my body on autopilot as I focused my mind in my semblance.
Twenty meters away from them... Good enough. At least it would have to suffice.
Gritting my teeth, I took hold of the earth the centinels were emerging from... Those fuckers, who the hell gave them permission to step in my turf? What a disrespect. What made them believe I wouldn’t make them pay for it?
Earth was my territory, the one at the side of the mountain was no exception. And if there was a dangerous place to be, it was inside my earth when I was tired and pissed.
So I simply squeezed, centinels were Grimm used to the pressure of rocks and material around them as they tunneled their way across the underground. But not like this, not focused, not with sharp blades and thorns poking at them from each and every direction.
The Grimm shrieked in that weird insectoid way they did. Thrashing in place for a couple seconds, accidentally spitting acid all around each other and the ground below. Before falling limp to the ground with a final whimper before they started evaporating, their rests being picked up by the cold Mistralian air.
Closing my eyes in relief, I felt a sudden tinge of unsteadiness allowed me to know something I dreaded was about to happen.
And lo and behold. Squinting a little, I managed to see the familiar greenish tint cover my body as my last legs finally ran out, and my aura broke. Finding it a little difficult to breathe now that my aura wasn’t thanking all of my exhaustion, I took one good look at Argent and Kishka.
-Can’t miss one moment to flirt, huh?- I asked aloud with fake indignation before shaking my head with a smile... I probably needed to rest for a moment. So I simply fell on all fours for a little while, trying to use every second to get a hold of myself. Even as I began to feel the cold on top of the train. And the ice still around us.
-I’ll be back on my feet soon... There’s still work to do... The train is still going awfully fast...- I told Argent and Kishka before waving them off.
As soon as they were off to save the train, I would lay flat on my back for a minute. I was certainly not made for fighting so hard for so long. As much as I wanted to go and help the others. I knew I would only be a burden.
Still... I trusted those idiots to finish the job. They had a tendency to surprise me both in the best and worst possible ways. But I kinda had a good feeling about this one... They were good people. Kish, Argent, Ruqa, Opal, Apollo and Varden... Even that idiot Nik had proven himself more dependable than expected.
So I smiled and entrusted the last leg of the race to them.
