She took a look at the markings Marion pointed out and nodded.
"Yeah, I think you're right. Geez, they really tore this place apart."
Not that she expected anything less. If anything the place was more put together than she expected because of the solid construction, but it was still annoying. If the Grimm kept digging like this it'd get a lot worse, but she was the least suited to dealing with them. Her combat ability was already limited, but she had nearly nothing she could do without physically putting her hands on them. It wasn't like she could just make the entire mine phase, and even if that were physically possible without making her aura explode seven times over, there were enough other implications for everything above ground that she wouldn't want to try it. So, as long as they weren't being aggressive, she was content letting everyone else deal with them while she made sure all their digging wasn't going to make this place fall on them.
Though that didn't stop her from jumping a little when they suddenly did get aggressive because of Alina's influence. Alina, unsurprisingly, seemed to have everything handled, so she just flexed her hands a little to calm down and rounded the corner to scout ahead. She did take a decent enough look at the machinery, but she was only looking to see if it would immediately kill or otherwise maim them as they walked past it. Checking for whether or not it still worked never even crossed her mind until Alina said something about it. That was one of those moments that made her feel really dumb.
She had always been terrible at multitasking and this was a good example of that. Her eating habits now that her life no longer revolved completely around Alina was another obvious symptom. She figured Russet would be used to dealing with that by now, but just in case, she figured she might as well ask. Russ' skills were good enough that she figured she'd be able to handle it.
"Can you check them while I figure out how to get around the collapse Russ?"
From there, she tried to construct a mental map of the space in here. She expected a grid layout to be easier to move around in, but between some paths looking unstable and others outright collapsing like the one they were trying to get around, it was proving more difficult than she expected. For situations like this, it was better to be safe and slow than needlessly risky and fast, so she didn't hesitate to tell everyone to turn around and find a different path if anything looked even the slightest bit off. At first, there weren't too many issues, but the mine was becoming more damaged as they went further in. It looked like the Grimm that didn't dig were funneled towards the tunnel with the elevator, so the damage there was far more localized. The further back they went, the more directions it looked like the Grimm came from, and thus there were more scrapes and collapses everywhere.
It was going to be a long day.

Fortunately, Marion didn’t have to put her weapons to much use.
Once or twice, she seemed about to throw a dagger at one of the multiple Grimm swarming the group. But sooner or later, she gave up when it was clear that the monsters were much more concerned with attacking Alina than paying attention to literally anything else in the mine.
-Huh...- She exclaimed in disbelief as the faunus woman began slashing and doing short work of the Grimm that still dove towards her in a suicidal charge. -How does she do that? She’s attracting them like a magnet...- Marion whispered to Sinopia and Russet, pointing at the impressive display in front of her.
Whatever the case, after a while, most of the Grimm died, and they could proceed with their job as intended. The less she had to do, and the less Grimm she had to fight. The better.
At Alina’s request to check out anything that may be of use, Marion gave her a thumbs up. And started more carefully taking in the multiple scraps and pieces of machinery that still worked.
The job actually relaxed Marion, as she always had a liking for finding treasure. Or the nearest equivalent. So spending some time in a dark hole looking for usable shit didn't strike her as such a horrible time...
Of course, that was when we forget about that nightmarish descent in that pathetic excuse for an elevator.
That, and not being able to see shit, but beggars can't be choosers.
All in all. It wasn’t much what Marion found, but it would still help. Some spare parts here and there, some electronics that would be very difficult to replace but luckily remained still intact, among other things. Like carelessly discarded drills and pneumatic hammers. Sturdy enough that they could probably be used once they recharged their batteries.
Hell, there was even a minecart tumbled over at a side that still seemed workable. Shinning the flashlight ahead, a piece of the rail bent over at a weird angle assured her that it would roll for long. But as beat down as everything was, it was really fucking hard to reduce heavy-duty machinery and infrastructure to nothing but dust. Maybe Alina could be able, but anything short of an acid-spitting Grimm shouldn’t be able to cause irreparable damage considering how rustic some of the pieces were.
-More shit that I expected seems to be salvageable... Hell. Get a good team of engineers to fix shit, and they would probably blow even my expectations out of the water...-
Marion Idly commented as she inspected some rubble off in a faraway corner... It was then. That she shone her light over a nearby wall and something interesting caught her attention.
-Yo, what the fuck is that?- She asked, not in concern but excitement. As she jogged towards a small hole in the wall, easy to overlook in the darkness and likely only found with her human eyes by mere chance. She needed to take away some broken planks and rubble, but now she could see it clearly.
-Please tell me this is not broken...- She mumbled. If the others approached, they could see that the blonde was bent over a toppled forklift of all things. And it still had the keys on. Fumbling around with them, Marion tried to turn the thing on but was only able to tear shrieks of protest from the damaged vehicle...
Although not nearly as damaged as it could be. Since the Grimm had probably overlooked that small branch in their pursuit of fresh meat from the mineworkers. Checking the gas deposit. It seemed like it even had some reserves left. In case they needed it.
-Hey... This could be useful, and it seems like it just needs a little push to start working- She said, pretty sure that, even though they were in an iron mine, they had struck gold.

[attr="class","nikki109"]That Grimm could be called by such a thing as negative emotion was lucky, because Alina always had a lot of it in supply. While pride was perhaps her signature sin, wrath was the one she constantly struggled with. There was such a tremendous amount of things to get angry about, especially given their current situation. The entire structure of her home country had mobilized against her and painted her people as terrorists without a cause, and despite her grandstanding and minimizing of that fact it was something that made her angry even still. [break][break]
That wasn’t the first or last issue that she had, really, because to summon enough anger to draw Grimm all she needed to do was remember failures. Friends in the war that were gone too soon, places she’d never see again due to their destruction in the war, or even the fight that unlocked her semblance and finally gave her the power she had always craved to enact change – no, that was a lie she told herself. At the time she only wished for the power to kill her enemies, and she was granted that power and had a rush of euphoria that she had never really experienced before or since. [break][break]
Her expression and posture barely changed when she summoned those negative emotions and rage boiling just beneath the surface, largely because it hadn’t been since she was a teenager that she felt the need to be performatively angry in a way that wasn’t completely deliberate. She made of a show of it before, and would again, but only in front of an audience who she felt would be receptive to whatever message she had at the time and to make examples of people who acted in ways that were deemed unacceptable. [break][break]
Without that audience, the performance aspect was pointless. She didn’t need to snarl or rage or stamp her feet to feel anger, all she needed to do was list her very long catalog of grievances with the world in her mind and then let the emotion come up all by itself. When the Grimm waves subsided, a blank expression surveyed the area around her once more as the wolf faunus once again bottled up the endless well of rage inside of her to move on to the next task. [break][break]
Marion had found a forklift that could be useful, but was unable to start it. In one of those the motor was connected to the drive axle, down at the bottom of the thing. Kneeling downward, it wasn’t super hard to open the way to the motor given the exterior damage making the parts easier to rip off. Mechanics and engineering was never one of Alina’s strong suit, but part of planning security measures was learning what was likely to fuck up and how to mitigate those things fucking up or fix them when they did. She didn’t know how to fix it, really, but she did know enough to open up the motor and find it completely filled with dust and incidental debris that was clogging the entire thing up. [break][break]
From there, the wolf faunus didn’t even attempt to do anything about the blockage. She just stood up and walked backwards to let someone else deal with it so she didn’t break anything by accident. Her primary job was physical security, not engineering fixes. She had identified the issue, but it was up to someone else to fix it due to literally everyone else present being better suited for that job than her. Delegation was an essential part of leadership, especially when it prevented her from getting dust and other shit all over her face and clothes unnecessarily. [break][break]

She couldn't help but flinch a bit as the Centinels charged in at their fearless leader.
Which only served to make Alina's steadfast, unwavering, calm all the more impressive. She was like a fucking majestic knight from a fairy tale or something, just standing boldly and letting a huge swarm of Grimm fly at her. She couldn't help but gawk a little bit, for just a brief second, before remembering they were in an actively dangerous situation.
At least her reflexes were faster than her brain- her gun was already readied and locked onto one of the sources of the approaching Grimm. It didn't seem like she'd need to pull the trigger, though- Alina was so much stronger and faster, she had dusted the entire horde before anyone else had much time to do anything.
"Whoa..." Reverent, hushed, tone. Was there anything else she could say right then?
It almost didn't register until Alina spoke again that the threat was gone. But as soon as she and the others were addressed, she snapped back to attention, moving to help scout ahead, looking for useful scraps as ordered. "Roger that, boss."
She stopped as they reached a spot with a bunch of mechanical-looking junk. That seemed like her target, for sure.
She stooped to investigate some of it, shining her flashlight around as best as she could while still keeping it facing mostly-forward, for those scouting ahead. She wasn't sure how strong exactly faunus nightvision was, only remembered that Bianca always seemed to see her coming at night when she'd sneak up on her, as kids. So probably pretty good- Russet was basically a shadow in the darkness, a phantom under the moon.
Or something like that.
Initially, she didn't spot anything too useful, but then she glanced over to where Marion was searching, and it seemed the blonde was having much better luck finding cool stuff. Tools, electronics, a whole-ass minecart. Good finds.
She was feeling pretty optimistic about this!
Especially when her new girlfr- err, when Marion excitedly ran off to check out something else. She followed, and came upon a forklift.
Which was pretty exciting! She could see why Marion was so hype about it. Alina came over and popped the hood, so to speak, which gave Russet an excellent peek inside at the inner workings.
That thing was fucking filthy.
She'd seen similar clogs before, when some of the Iron Wolves came back from a patrol claiming that their rifles were malfunctioning. To which she had promptly clapped them on the ears for being so damn careless.
No shit they weren't working- even the nicest rifles in the world jammed up after taking them for a fucking swim in a swamp...
This seemed to be largely the same issue. Gunk and dust residue buildup preventing the motor from doing its job. Shouldn't be too hard of a fix. Much less considered about getting dirty than Alina, she just stuck her hands right in, scooping out as much as she could reach without sticking her whole torso inside the lift, and flinging the sludge at the ground beside her.
It wasn't pretty, but it got the job done.
Or well, so she'd thought.
When she climbed back out, a bit greasier and sootier than before, to turn the engine on again, it started up fine, but very quickly sputtered and choked out again. Very perplexing.
Maybe there was something else wrong with it, besides the motor being jammed?
Either way, it seemed outside of her area of expertise now, so she was a little stumped as to what could be causing the issue. Hopefully someone else could figure it out- it was a cool forklift, and would be super-helpful after they finished clearing out all the Grimm.
Speaking of which... Was it her imagination, or did she hear something really big moving, far off, deeper into the mine?

[attr="class","nikki109"]There was something wrong here, and it was kind of worrying that this was the first time she had noticed. It was lack of focus, and it was something she needed to rectify quickly. The thing wrong was something missing, rather than something present. If Grimm came in through a hole at the end of the tunnel, there should have been more bodies. They hadn’t come across even one so far, and it was only now that she was looking for it that she saw any signs of faint blood trails leading further in the mines. [break][break]
Normally Grimm ripped people apart where they stood, so that was weird. Either they were crawling while injured, or they were dragged. There was still definitely Grimm behavior she didn’t understand and types she hadn’t really seen or even heard about, so it could be one of those. Back in Vacuo mercenaries tended to have specialties, or mission types that they took much more than others. Alina was always a Bounty specialist, which meant that she excelled and spent most of her time preparing to fight other people. People with semblances, usually, but people nevertheless. [break][break]
Alina was one of the few people in Remnant living who had experience in commanding both as someone without a semblance and one with, allowing her a rather unique perspective when it came to planning. In any fight or conflict against people, the wolf faunus had the confidence to be aggressive and snatch wins that others may not even attempt. It did for sure backfire sometimes, but the nature of being aggressive is accepting that mistakes will be made and temporary setbacks will happen. They were temporary, though, because that aggression has led to rapid expansion that would have never happened had the nascent Revolutionary League sat on their asses and done nothing. [break][break]
The Council had decided to train its huntsmen to specialize against Grimm, leaving the human element as a side gig at best. They had abolished the military entirely and shifted the burden entirely to huntsmen in the capital and nobody in particular in the outskirts, leaving the capital ironically perhaps the least defended city in the entire country after The Fall happened since all the Huntsmen who normally took care of defense were dead. The human element that the League had fought were either huntsmen who were largely unprepared to deal with intelligent enemies, and mercenaries who were overwhelmed with superior numbers and training who got their much better equipment stolen in the aftermath to increase the strength of the League’s troops. [break][break]
They treated it like a side gig, and the League treated it like it was the most important thing in their lives – because it was. If they failed operations against Council forces, they would be annihilated completely and executed en masse. One big failure and the entire operation came crashing down in the worst way, and everyone knew this. The Council had a recurring problem in terms of field leadership, forcing top down leadership that led to late maneuvering and late… well, everything. The team on the ground had to report back to another team in the base who would then relay the information to the huntsman in charge – whose orders would then be relayed back to the field team. The overreliance on huntsmen to do basic shit led to Council mercenaries and huntsmen elements to being rolled over for the most part due to being double enveloped in the time it took for the huntsman to get wind of the situation and make a decision – because it wasn’t like they were experienced at all either or had any idea on what the fuck to do. Some of them legitimately just panicked and folded under the pressure, and it wasn’t like the League were going to let them have a second chance and bother to try and bring them back from the brink after investing a bunch of ammunition towards their death. [break][break]
This led to the Revolutionary League and their comparatively few semblance enhanced operators treating Grimm operations as the side gig, which was normally workable due to the extreme firepower that Alina had and the overwhelming use of force that the League used when the wolf faunus wasn’t there. Rounds were cheaper than people, and if it took a few thousand rounds and some artillery barrages to clear out an infestation without any losses… well, they were going to toss a few thousand rounds down range. That wasn’t possible in this case, which was unfortunate… but they did have some possible mechanical assistance for the tasks that Alina wasn’t suited for. [break][break]
”Blood trails lead further in, on the left side. Going to need the forklift to clear open the way safely.” she noted, then turned her eyes to the forklift itself where Russet was trying to get the thing working. It was sputtering and trying to start, and Alina noticed a shitton of rust inside the thing along with some residual debris. A few swift kicks dislodged some of it, and the next time Russet tried to start the damned thing it finally started running. Less than full power, for sure, but workable for now. The tires weren’t in the best condition and it likely wasn’t going to run at full power, but it would hopefully be enough to clear the blockage. ”Alright, time to see if we can use this for anything.” [break][break]

After some shaking and cleaning, Russet seemed to have cleaned the machine well enough for it to start working after a couple swift kicks from Alina.
Hey, as long as it works, don’t question it. The Kozaks could fine-tune the details later. What mattered was that now they acquired a fine addition to any rock-clearing operation they could need to run down there. So Marion wasn’t complaining. It would be worth their time if they didn’t need to end up digging rocks with their hands.
-Alright... I figure any of you will take to driving this thing?- Marion asked Sinopia and Russet. The first one was way better with mechanical thingies than her. And Russet kinda being an expert driver of some sort. At least as far as she was aware. So Marion would take the lift only if no one else was willing to do so.
Blood trails... They were a little weird, considering they were dealing with Grimm of all things. There could be some explanations if one was willing to use the imagination. Like a creep getting an arm stuck between its jaws, just rolling with it as it pursued the rest of the people or something like that.
But then again, subterranean Grimm meant a whole different deal than those in the overworld. There was a lot of creepy crawlies you wouldn’t see even in your wildest nightmares.
With this thought hanging on her brain, Marion’s fingers fell on the daggers on her belt. Idly taping each and every one of them until she got to the last two, the ice daggers that would be her getaway in case things got dire.
Taking a deep breath, Marion began smiling to calm herself a bit. Making sure she stood behind both Alina and the forklift. With any luck. Any weird-ass monster would focus on the wolf faunus first or in the noisy machine second.
But as long as Alina was in her top game, they shouldn’t have to worry about much... Or so she hoped.
-More blood here...- She mentioned, shining her light over another thick trail of red leading deeper into the mine. At a side, a big splash of blood laid plastered on a wall. But there were no corpses around, not even bones.

Lio Agouti was not claustrophobic. That didn't mean he particularly liked confined spaces nor did it mean he didn't have reservations about going into a grimm infested mine. Call it a bad experience or even just common sense.
A weaker person would have let their fear dictate their actions. But if Lio wanted to change, he must disregard his fear and face anything with stoic composure. Even if it meant returning to the underground but for reasons far different this time.
Today the rabbit faunus was but a volunteer, an applicant to the Kozaks who would be assisting the Iron Wolves in a strictly non-combatant role during this operation. Moving supplies, transporting the injured, passing along messages, and the sort. The kind of thing that ought to be left to the weak who would not be able to contribute to battle. That thought irked Lio and he told himself that this was only a temporary assignment, before he would be trusted to do more valuable tasks.
Respirator masks were being passed along to those scheduled to enter the mines and Lio grabbed one for himself and quietly evaluated it. With this provision, it was clear to him that the League were already better masters than the bandits.
Not too long later, the Kozaks were passing around a warning that the opening was going to be blown open. Knowing his place would be away from the front lines, Lio had stepped farther behind to watch how the Kozaks would defend themselves and wear down the mob of creatures, picking a spot that would be far enough from the danger as well as far enough to avoid subsequent hearing loss.
He doubted that the Kozaks would be able to clear out the mine in a single day. It sounded like a project that might take a week even, depending on how deep the mines ran and if they planned to go up and down the mine shaft to get fresh air and rest or if they wanted to try sleeping in the mines to save travel time. Lio hoped they were smart enough to not get caught sleeping here because that kind of slumber was not something easily woke out of. Either way this would be a miserable excursion that would take a lot of time and effort.
At least that was what he thought before he saw the Kozaks at work. While the wave of Grimm was a horrible sight, only one person was needed as semblance fire consumed the torrent of shadows exiting the mine, a display of unmistakable power that demonstrated the capability of the Kozaks without question
When the open area turned alight, Lio had been struck with terror at the power, his rabbit ears flattened against his head as he watched the display alongside the awestruck townsfolk.
He watched the woman with such brazen semblance, the one he was told was the "Hetman" of the Kozaks, Alina Rybalka, who founded the League and saw it develop into the growing campaign that it was today.
She was strong, undeniably so, and thus worthy of deferring to.
He somewhat understood the broad strokes of the Revolutionary League, how they were exiled by the council as they were seen a threat to their control, their mission to reduce the authority of the Council and to enable other communities outside the capital to support themselves.
But having not been around for any of their major events, Lio didn't have the same capacity to feel very intensely about whatever motivated the Kozaks. He was new and didn't have the same insight as those who've put their blood and tears into the cause.
However, Lio had no immediate plans to start bleeding and crying for strangers.
He would wait until the initial force cleared up enough of the mine to allow follow-up teams to set up support points and other infrastructure. Only then would volunteers be ordered to begin carrying more things into the mines.
Lio got onto the lift, the rabbit an indistinguishable figure among the others as their small group began the descent. His ears twitched with anxiety, purely a physical reaction, just from the smell and the taste of the air. Although that shouldn't have been the case with the respirator protecting him from the foul mine air. Perhaps it was just his memories playing on his imagination. Wasn't much he could do about it except to ignore it.
So began the work as Lio followed others around, lighting oil lamps to let the non-sighted Kozaks work a bit more freely, carrying ammunition for the soldiers, filling sandbags to build barricades from, and passing news of what was happening down the mine further up the communication chain.
When one of the teams didn't return from their descent into the mines, an order was sent for another team to try to relocate the missing team or to identify what threats that might have obstructed the teams return. Lio would follow along to keep track of the path taken and to run back to call for backup if the search team truly wasn't capable of handling it on their own.
As their team descended, it was a mostly quiet affair, only punctuated by enraged Creeps and Centinels that would be efficiently dispatched by the resource mindful soldiers. It was steady going until the roof collapsed above them.

[attr="class","nikki109"]Marion found another blood trail, this time bigger and with more residue with again no bones or corpse in sight. ”Need to find the end of those blood trails. Keep looking out for them?” she’d say, the order said in a tone that sounded more like a question at the end because it was fucking weird that this was happening. There was no way there was anyone alive down here for this long, which meant the Grimm did this… which was abnormal as fuck. [break][break]
There was suddenly some radio chatter in her comms, which was also abnormal. Nobody would be in this particular channel unless something went wrong. The entire point of military style training, bullshit aside, was to prevent people from panicking and making things worse when shit happened. Those that contacted her did their jobs and communicated effectively and quickly that there was a collapse and a small team was probably being crushed under some rocks right about then. Sinopia would also have access to the same channel, so she’d have heard the same thing. [break][break]
”Sinopia, go back and deal with that. They shouldn’t be straying too far from the chalk lines. We don’t have time to deal with people fucking around when there could be some threats left.” she’d say directly to her second, before clicking her earpiece to enable audio. [break][break]
”Standby. Sinopia is coming to drag them out. Keep to the marked areas. Sparse Grimm contact so far, main risk is more cave-ins.” [break][break]
There seemed to be some hesitation on taking the reigns of the forklift, so Alina got in the thing herself and simply rammed it into the debris in front of them, pushing it forward. Then she reversed it, and rammed it forward again. This process repeated two or three times until a decent sized hole was punched through. Unfortunately for them, there was a creep or something small on the other side that then got ran over… but in the process of getting run over fucked up the machine just enough to make sure it stopped working a second time. The engine sputtered and died, but it had served its purpose at least for now. [break][break]
Looking around the other side of the debris wall, there was some … interesting things that Alina noticed. The first was the fact that there was some sort of material she hadn’t seen before on the ground in puddles. It was dark red and black, and partially solidified so it looked like some sort of goo. ”Not touching that.” she’d say offhandedly to lighten the mood a bit, but the fact remained she had no idea what the fuck that was and no easy means of figuring it out. [break][break]
Introducing DM Problem #5: Examine the strange material (Social 9, information given on success) [break] Attempting DM Problem #5 with Pickpocketing and Stealth E (+1) [break] Roll: 9 + 1 = 10, success [break][break]
After verifying the way forward was clear, the wolf faunus crouched in front of one of the small puddles of the material and pulled out a cloth from one of her belt pouches to dab it in the material. Some of it seemed to disintegrate on contact, and the only material that actually made it onto the cloth was dried blood. None of the goop itself seemed to stick to the cloth even with a second dab, and that time too part of it seemed to disintegrate on contact. [break][break]
”Blood but not blood.” was the initial verbalization of her findings. ”Some of it seems to disintegrate on contact. Can’t get any of the dark shit on the cloth.” The wolf faunus would toss away the cloth at this point, littering the ground with the thing that only scraped up some dried blood. [break][break]
”Feel free to take a crack at it. I’m going to go a bit further down to scout. The blood trails seem to lead this way, so we’ll eventually reach the end and hopefully figure out what the fuck happened.” [break][break]
They hadn’t encountered any larger Grimm down here at all yet, which wasn’t necessarily unusual but also made Alina uneasy. Either there were none and her level of tension wouldn’t recede, or there was one and it could be around any corner. In such close quarters dodging would be difficult, and being slammed through one of the pillars and trapped in the walls or ceiling wasn’t an experience she was exactly dying to try out for the first time. [break][break]
It wasn’t any real danger that bothered her, because so long as Sinopia was there she wasn’t in danger of dying even if she did get stuck in one of those unfortunate places… it was the discomfort associated with the experience that she was dreading. There came a point to where fear for one’s own life from combat almost ceased to exist, and Alina had hit that point a long time ago. It was environmental hazards that gave her any pause these days, because the only Grimm that had ever given her major issues the past few years was that human-Grimm hybrid thing in the capital… and they didn’t exactly grow those types of monsters on trees. They never figured out who sent it or why, but whoever it was or whatever happenstance that allowed that particular monstrosity to become a reality hadn’t manifested itself a second time… which was a good thing. The alarm bells in his head were going off as their team departed away from the main group and further into the mine. There wasn't anything that demanded his attention and no matter how scrutinously he looked around there was no immediate danger. Perhaps Lio's instincts were just that dull; after all this mine seemed like an efficient, modernized mine at first glance and Lio wasn't bright enough to assume he knew better than a professional mining town. Still his gut told him this wasn't safe and he needed to get out.
Like before, he ignored his instincts in favour of composure.
But accidents didn't need reason to occur, they just could.
A cave in could happen faster than someone might assume. The earth didn't shake below them, and there wasn't any gentle warning of falling rubble considerate enough to warn them to leap out of the way. Instead, a buggy little Creep grimm clawed its way from it's hiding place above to drop on their party only to dislodge the entire ceiling along with it.
As the dust settled and Lio was bracing the fallen chunks above him with his shovel, there was only one thought in his mind.
That could have gone a great deal worse than it had. It could also have been a lot better, he assumed as well, but Lio's luck was never reliable.
Trapped between a mound of rock with little room to breath or move, panic was setting in. Uneasy breathing, thoughts of dying horribly, and an urge to cry out for help filled his soul. But with careful practice, he opted for ignorance rather than pessimism. He was good at clearing his mind of ill thoughts, as though his emotions were subdued by a heavy pillow.
Assuming he wouldn't make his situation any worse, he decided he might as well try to escape. In the little crevasse he managed to create for himself, Lio was able to summon a single clone of himself, looking even more nonplussed about the situation they were in. Where one person would not be able to dig their way out of the pile of rubble, two could. They weren't going to dig literally as while Lio did have shovels it wasn't what he had in mind as the duo used the hardened tools to brace the walls apart enough for him to move away stones by hand, slowly as he could. Within a few minutes he felt he was close enough to the surface of his rocky tomb, Lio simply kicked away the remaining stones to create an exit for him and his clone to step out of.
The mine section they were in was pitch black as their lanterns were either extinguished, underneath rubble, or crushed. While it wasn't too bad for Lio, being a faunus and all, he did make an effort to shine a working flashlight from his pack to see if the others were alive.
At the spark of light filling the cave, there were immediate cries for help, desperation, with intent on seeing the light again.
While Lio did have the option of running back for help, he saw that the rubble he was worried about wasn't that thick. Perhaps the Creep digging around just disturbed the lightest material, leading to a "softer cave in" so to speak. Doubtful, very doubtful, but he just had to take the situation at hand.
While less than ideal, Lio and his clone would be enough to solve this problem themselves.
So they began digging out the team members out, one by one, and each rescued Kozak would make rescuing the next easier. There were four Kozaks in addition to Lio and clone and they were able to save all of them from their accidental burials, all bruised but, given that all of them had been trained to use aura, it was thankfully a pretty bloodless rescue.
A black haired cat faunus made his way over and ruffled Lio's hair as if to say "good job kid", to which Lio made an attempt to growl, a weak gesture that only made the other boy laugh harder.
Collecting what belongings they could find, the team huddled together to discuss their next course of action. One member gave an update on the radio to the main group of Kozaks to tell them they were fine now.
"So I guess we turn back, right? Can't find the missing guys, must have gotten buried by a cave in, just like us."
"First off, we still don't know that. Maybe they encountered grimm or fell down a crevasse. Point is, we have to find their bodies before we can be certain." "We don't have to find their bodies, we just got to check whatever danger is in this direction and report back," Lio said, a bit more callously than he realized and he winced. "I mean... Shouldn't we avoid getting into worse trouble? We're not in the best shape right now either..." "We really should wait for them to tell us what to do..." said the Kozak with the radio. "A little bit of independent thought is important for a soldier. We've got to be able to show we can come to an agreement and be proactive decision makers."
"I'm pretty sure you mean for business entrepreneurs."
Lio rubbed his temples, as he let the others decide what to do next. He would probably have to get checked for a concussion at some point. That could probably wait until later, he assumed.

-Huh. Sure- Marion responded when Alina ordered to search for more blood trails. Although she made it sound more like a question, it wasn’t as if Marion herself couldn’t see the strangeness of the whole situation.
Many things felt out of place, and even when Marion was sure there was a perfectly normal explanation for this. Until she saw it, she wouldn’t be able to let go of the feeling of something being inherently wrong with the whole situation.
After sending Sinopia to rescue some fuckwits who got themselves trapped or something. Alina hopped onto the machine and used it as a siege weapon against the nearest wall. Which was still effective, Marion would give her that.
After sending off the defunct machine with a military-style salute, the blonde woman walked through the newly made entrance to the next section of the mine. But her easiness didn’t last for long, as Alina quickly pointed out some weird material lining some parts of the floor in puddles, one that the Kozak leader herself had never seen before by the looks of it.
-Lead the way. I’ll check this out for a while- Marion said, genuinely curious about this material. She witnessed how it didn’t get on Alina’s clothes, which was weird in and out of itself. But not entirely impossible, as she remembered some videos of people playing with liquid mercury and likely getting poisoned in the process. So a liquid that had resistance to being absorbed wasn’t that strange.
The strange part was that it both resisted being sucked by the cloth and also fucking evaporated when touched.
That last part sounded kind of familiar to Marion. But as soon as her brain thought about it, a wave of realism dawned on her again and again. -But how is this pooling?- She murmured to herself, shaking her head shortly after to get herself out of that funk.
Nah. There was no way. She must have been tripping. Marion considered herself almost silly for thinking about that. -The hell is this?- She muttered nonetheless, grabbing a nearby stick and jamming it into the puddle of mysterious liquid. Curiosity almost getting the better of her. She had been just a second away from jamming a naked finger into the Schrodinger blood.
Only to mentally chastise herself for such a stupid idea. Marion hadn’t made it that far by jamming her hands into mysterious, eldrich liquids without a second thought. And she wasn’t about to start doing that now.
Taking out her water bottle, she took a long swig before discarding the rest on some nearby rocks. Very carefully, she tried to get some of the weird goo inside the bottle, but she was having some problems doing that.

It was better to be late than never turn up at all. She had missed role call for the operation at hand due to oversleeping with a colossal hangover. Drinking was part of the fun when freedom was your gig, and she was used to drinking enough to KO a small horse. Complaints aside, she also never seemed to remember much when she did drink that much, a given considering the amount induced. Getting ready took some time as she had to apply the armour pieces to her wings but eventually she followed where she believe the operation took place, the beginning of the mines. A few of the Iron Wolves were guarding the entrance incase anything shitty came their way, and she gave them a small greeting as she passed. When she's about a foot above the majority of the League, most often gave them more authority than she deserved, Kelsie was just a lowly ranked "grunt" if you would.
At least, in her head she is.
Taking one of the last respirators left, and once it was afixed to her face and adjusted to be comfortable, she slapped one of the canisters to make the respirator work and took her first step into the mine. Greeted by a sheer drop, she peaked over the edge and saw a lift far... FAR down at the bottom. No good. "'Ey, how long with that take to git 'ere?" Her thick accent coming out, symbolising just how out of place she was. "I dunno, maybe five minutes max?" One of the guards motioned back, and she looked to the lift again. Judging height and some other bits, extending her wings to their max reach, knocking a guard in the face lightly. He winced and stepped away, whilst Kelsie just laughed lightly before hopping down the shaft. "You'll fucking kill... god damnit.." The guard tried to call out to her, but she was plummeting already.
As she neared the end, she extended her wings all the way to slow her flight, before hitting the ground with a relative thud. Dusting her knees off, she folded the wings back as much as she could, but it still made her about three metres wide, and a menacing shadow in the depths of this mine. Thankfully, faunus get night vision, and she could see with relative ease... just no colours. Then his radio chirped up, about some team getting caught in a cave in, and Sinopia coming to assist. Now, she knew the big hot shot Alina was good at her job. Leading the league and all, but Sinopia? She didn't know anything about. Figuring that Alina knew what she was doing, she decided to push through. Tiny tunnels had been marked and slowly she followed the path of these marks.
It took a while, but eventually she heard a low rumble of a small engine, a forklift or something, and lights reflecting off cave edges infront. Taking a few steps in that direction, a low rumble of the ground alerted her as she dived forward as the ground burst from beneath her, a Centinel launching at the position she was just on. Bastard. As it began to rear back, she struck a blow with her fist, and her semblance sprung to life. Electricity began to crackle and arc off her arms, legs and wings, casting of bright blue sparks of light with each jolt. It sent her nerves into overdrive resisting the elements, but she had always managed before.
"Got one of these little buggers 'ere!" She called out behind her as she then grabbed the Centinel and slammed her fist into it, rocketing at the wall, but it didn't seem to be enough as it skuttled at her again, and lunged. Kelsie instinctively brought a wing up to block as it began to bite on the ends of her winged armour plates.
