Lio watched Marion carefully and started to have bad feelings about her intentions and what she found so interesting about his "debt" to her. It might be a lot more trouble than he needed right now, but it was something he had to do.
He wouldn't say he personally felt the need to repay Marion, no. For him, it was just setting things straight between two people. While a naive rabbit might have believed people helped for the sake of it, he had accepted that nothing was without cost. While it might have been breathlessly easy for Marion to save him, Lio had appreciated such effort immensely and, having gotten the bester deal of that exchange, Lio now needed to return the difference.
The rabbit faunus hadn't agreed to anything yet, but, as to what the cost might be, well it really was up to this woman to set the price of repayment.
But even though it wasn't ideal, Lio knew it was better this way.
Better that someone work and then be rewarded, than to be one first rewarded and asked to work. "Alright then... Marion..." he said, cautiously before stepping away.
Understanding himself to be less physically strong as the bird woman or as combat attuned as Marion, Lio took large steps back to watch from behind. While it might be cowardly to stay out of the conflict, especially as a melee fighter, no one could say he didn't attempt to help. His clone was one of the most effective distractions there could be and it was working hard to keep the attention off the group.
Standing tall within the chaos, the bird woman extended her wingspan to fill the cave and suddenly the rabbit faunus felt very small. The cave lit up briefly as thunder coursed through the woman and into the grimm who were soon paralyzed by the energy ripping through their bodies. Lio struggled to keep his eyes on her through the flashes of light, eventually turning away. This kind of power was like looking at the heart of the fire for too long that your eyes hurt from the light and heat.
He couldn't help but feel like it was something out of a myth. Along his travels, there were always impressionable street kids that tested each others courage, daring themselves to tempt the supernatural. Always using their clever wits or overactive imaginations to somehow create proof of their childish supersition.
Now Lio felt like he was that child again, being faced with finding a local myth and actually encountering something powerful. He felt like he was looking a lightning bird, a creature of thunder and lightning, said to be a witches familiar all dressed in feathers black and white. This woman, somehow pulled out of a old wive's tale, seem to fit half of that description. "...you are something of an Impundulu, huh miss?" Lio said offhandedly, staring in awe of the woman.
Lio nodded as the bird faunus said that their group should keep going. It was alright to take orders from someone stronger than you and Lio knew he wasn't a leader. Best he would leave it to the others. "Bunny lad....?" Lio muttered, confused at the nickname before shaking his head. "...Yes, if you feel it is right we can keep going. Although the other Kozaks need to take some of the wounded back out."
The radio soon flickered on and Lio flinched before turning to the source. The radio had come with a message and the news was not encouraging.
...Of course there would be bodies. The domain of death was the underground afterall. The person on the radio never specified who the bodies were and why they died... but it was assumed that it safe enough given she asked for helping hands rather than reinforcements. "...That's...the... boss, yes?" Lio questioned. "Suppose we're close... but it's clearing corpses by the sounds of it," he added sourly, before unenthusiatstically heading over.
The scene as he moved closer grew more and more disturbing as he kept walking.
He had felt comfortable moving around with only his night vision to guide him but he was coming to notice that something wasn't right. He pulled the lantern out of his pack and lit it, deciding artificial light was better than his faunus eyes right now. And the sight disturbed him. Something wasn't right about this cave, as oil black water clung to the sides of the rocks. It was not a natural rock formation, certainly. Was this part of the mine cursed or was something growing here?
He was very thankful that he got to have a mask here. It blocked out most of the foul mine air but Lio imagined that without the mask it would be far worse. He moved forward cautiously, lamp in hand, strecther on his back, and his clone soon behind.
Finding the cavern opening, his attention drew to the white haired woman who had to be the strongest person in this town, above or below. "Ah... Hetman?" the rabbit faunus approached, unsure if he was meant to salute or bow, settling for a respectful, defferent bow low enough to be appropriate to the disparity in strength between them. "These... are... the bodies... ahh," Lio said suddenly, realizing what he was look at.
He had thought before that the underground was the domain of death. He thought he knew what to expect but he found himself unprepared. It was hard to keep composed but these things were beyond recognizable.
This section of the mine was only recently opened and he realized that there were no animals, no flies, no fungus growing around the bodies because there was no way that other living creatures would have gotten down here. Instead the bodies were decomposing out of their own essence, falling apart and forgotten.
The sight of these things brought bad memories and Lio hesitated too long, quivering, as his face flushed ghost white. When he had been a mining slave, he knew what kind of death happened this far away from help. Whether it was a quick death, or slow and agonizing, or drawn out, to the slaves it reminded them that this existence that they called life was not really living. There were only those dying and those already dead. It all was just a matter of time.
Lio was afraid of death. Even looking at this was hard for him, as it reminded of how it could have been. He was lucky to escape this, that was all there is.
He didn't want to do this. He didn't want to be here.
But while the thought of encountering death so far underground was terrifying, a feeling struck him violently.
Pity.
He pitied these people. These people, while they had gone down here of their own free will, were unlike him in many ways, and were all strangers he didn't care for, they didn't deserve to be left here.
Souls lost underground, hidden away from the warmth of the sun.
How could anyone bear being that cold, forever?
Lio set the stretcher on the ground and pulled a small blanket out of his pack and drapped it over a mangled corpse. Both Lio and the clone would tuck the edges of cloth underneath, wrapping the corpse patiently before putting it on the stretcher and carrying outside. They would do this for the rest of the bodies that remained. Attempted DM Problem #9: Retrieve the bodies so the breach can be sealed (Hazard 9)

Well. Apparently, someone actually knew how to deal with that shit. Not in the most sophisticated way possible. But, hey, if it's not broken, then don’t fix it.
The light show kinda made Marion’s eyes hurt a bit. Though. So she shielded her eyes for a second. Once she opened them back, she could see the sparkly woman. And she was being surrounded and consumed by the horde of creepy crawlies.
At this moment, Marion felt a shiver run down her spine. That woman, there was no way she had survived that, as of now. She was gone, feed to the Grimm... And there was one thing that Marion could wonder about the whole situation.
… Was Marion going to be blamed for it? It wasn’t entirely her fault that someone just went and decided to play Marco-polo in a pool of Grimm.
...Well, she was the Osaul. So it was maybe... Kinda her fault? Nah, that probably wasn’t right. Wasn't Alina the one who set this whole operation? Yeah, that sounded way more like it. So there was no logical reason to put the blame on good old Marion.
Now enjoying some ease of mind. The blonde hummed, pensive at the situation at hand. -Huh... At least they are all in the same place! Got any grenades, boys?- She asked the nearby soldiers, but before any of them could respond. A small burst of lightning and a disturbing laugh distracted all of them from it.
Damn, creepy semblance kids these days. They make them more and more powerful with each new generation. At least, this was what Marion believed.
-Sure, Alina is probably done on her end. The team is safe, and nobody died here... I think. So mission complete and all of that-
And onwards we went.
Soon, they found the Hetman. And from then on, Marion could see that bunny the kid seemed eager to get his hands into some crappy corpses. Needless to say, she didn’t share his enthusiasm.
-Will go help set some quality of life stuff. Make this place a little more hospitable. Maybe a cocktail bar- The blonde joked as Lio started dragging the bodies away. So, with a shrug and a certain levity to her step. She skipped back towards the entrance of the mine.
At their entry point, people were already setting some boxes, tools, and other working paraphernalia. The bandit lady gave a dirty look towards that engine of misery known as an elevator that would eventually bring them back to the surface. After taking her time to do that, she started sorting through things. Giving some small orders here and there to the rest of the workers.
First things firsts, some fucking lights, and signs so people wouldn’t wander around and fall on a Centinel hole or something.
Marion knew she was fastest than most people in the Kozak army, with the notable exceptions of Russet and Sinopia. So if she was willing to work a little sweat, she could really speed things up. So after a short pause to do some stretches, she began her newly appointed maid job, but now on a much bigger scale!
…
Sometime later. Marion would feel satisfied enough with her work to give a quick call to Alina and the others. As she rested over a small crate.
-Yo, Marion here. Things are looking nicer already. Getting the stiffs out should be easier now. And no Grimm has come to crash our party yet, so it should be safer as well. Anything else you need me to do? Over-

A rabbit faunus was the first to approach. She’d return the bow with a quick salute but misunderstood his comment about the bodies. [break][break]
”No more Grimm inside and no signs of centinels this far in.” she’d reply, thinking that the comment was out of concern for safety. The former soldier had been around so much blood and so many corpses over the years that the thought that someone might be unsettled or fearful of them by themselves, without any other threat barely even registered – and didn’t at all, in this instance.[break][break]
Alina would make her way slowly back to the front of the mine, almost disappointingly finding nothing for her to do on the way. By the time she made it back to the elevator shaft, she was close enough to hear the end of Marion’s radio message in both her voice and her voice over the radio.[break][break]
”I think we’re good for now. Everything seems to be taken care of.” [break][break]
She’d walk in the elevator along with a good chunk of material that was no longer needed and quickly order it be raised, but cancelled that order when some of the bottom part where her feet were ended up giving way and breaking apart. She reached her hand down to try and prevent more parts from crumbling off as the elevator descended, partially succeeding but mostly getting a mixture of wooden dust and rust on her gloves. That was going to be a pain to get out later.[break][break]

Wow, she did not enjoy being slapped around by these Centinels...
Even through her Aura, hitting a cave wall hurt a lot, and she was disoriented a bit by the impact. Luckily, though, she was quick on her feet. Or, back in this case. As she hit the wall, she clung to it, and soon shifted to a crouching position, aiming down at the Centinels with her weapon, only to find that... They were gone.
Most of them anyways, it seemed.
Between the big winged woman, and the new guy with the shovel, and an unsettlingly lifelike clone, and his friends, it seemed like they were dealt with pretty easily. Except for-
She glanced up at the same time Marion approached, spotting the Centinel above them. For Russet, it was rare to be taken by surprise from above, considering her unique ability to easily move in three dimensions. Bit hard to be surprised that something was moving on the ceiling, when she could do the same thing.
Still, she was slower to react, thanks to the first Centinel tossing her about like a ragdoll. Marion got to it first, knifing the buggy bastards right off the ceiling, before going around to collect her gear.
Russet lent a hand, letting the B team go off on their own jobs. She could have tagged along with them, but felt a little more comfortable sticking to the established buddy system, and hanging with blondie and her new grunt pals.
Striding easily across the ceiling of the mine tunnel, she nabbed a couple of knives that had embedded in the stone, before dropping down to return them to their owner.
From there, she'd mostly just tag along with the newcomers and her buddy/future date, until Alina's voice hummed over the radio. Something about bodies and stretchers? Sounded pretty urgent. "Roger that, boss, on the way!"
She led the way to the Kozak leader's position, though it wasn't as if anyone would exactly be lost without her guidance- everyone but her and Marion were Faunus it seemed, so despite her flashlight, she was still pretty much the blind leading the not-exactly-blind.
Seemed as though everything was at least mostly in order, though, as they met up with the boss. She gave the rundown, and they headed back for the elevator to get the hell out of the mine, which frankly was the smartest thing anyone had decided to do all day. Only issue was that the elevator floor didn't want to cooperate- seemed ready to give in at any second.
That wouldn't do.
"Lemme see what I can do."
There were a lot of really tough semblances for blasting things into tiny pieces, after all. But Russet's came in handy much more in times like these- when there wasn't a thing that needed breaking, necessarily.
Testing the walls and roof of the cart, it seemed the floor was the only real liability, which made things way easier. Russet ran back, unscrewed the side panel door off of the forklift, and tentatively wedged it into the space between the walls. It didn't make a very pretty door, but it was sturdy enough to hold some weight, probably.
At least on the way up. That was all they really needed, after all, right?
Stepping optimistically onto the new floor, sitting atop the crumbling, busted one, Russet positioned herself in the middle of the elevator, and stretched up, to catch her hands on the ceiling. There was a rosy glow as both her feet and hands hitched to their respective surfaces, and she grinned at the group. "Your chariot awaits. Should hold. But maybe let's just take up the most important stuff first, and I can come back and carry the rest in a few more trips."
