During the high stress situation of the second Argus Limited Mission, Ruqa hadn't had an opportunity to slow down and take a breather. But as all the threats were resolved and they managed to escape intact, the adrenaline drained away and exhaustion fell in.
Ruqa Reyes stood around idly as the clean-up crew arrived at the train station, with people running around and medical personnel checking in on any injured passengers. Film crews were sticking around, poking their cameras and microphones in the faces of the victims and towards the brave huntsmen that would certainly make headlines.
As the most recognizable face as the notorious "Hero of Argus', attention naturally gravitated to her. While she imagined the members of Golden Wings would likely be requested for mission recap and answering questions, there was an undeniable sense that these people demanded her attention. There was a bit of sentimentality to it, a reporter telling her outright that his report would be about "the return of Ruqa Reyes", as though the she had ever left the hunter scene once the spotlight was taken off her.
Obviously. there were other "returning hunters" from the first Argus Limited Mission. Nik had returned to reprise his role as Warface, shockingly, and the snake faunus, Argent, who showed up in the last minute to save the four-armed huntress from danger. But Ruqa was the most recognizable, the easiest one to pay attention to, and so many of the other hunters that put in the effort to help might not get the chance to have their names in the news.
How would today reflect on tonight's broadcast? Ruqa Reyes single-handedly saving the train. Ruqa Reyes assaults member of Golden Wings. There was no single narrative that could be spun about her which was one of the most appealing things about Ruqa, at least in the media's eyes. She could be easily featured in numerous stories depending on the mood of the public who would eat up whatever novelty or controversy she provided. At any moment, she could be the hero of the day or the worst huntress in Mistral. No matter what story they pushed, papers would sell as long as Ruqa could be blamed.
It was not something Ruqa wanted to deal with. Her reputation wasn't unsalvagable, and some people even though her an inspiration. But trying to convince other people her worth was too exhausting. As Ruqa trudged through the crowd she held her smile but she couldn't help but feel the attention was undeserved.
