Today was as good a time as any.
It was a few days after that Team Combat class, and as far as she knew there wasn’t a person on campus that actually had a class on Saturdays. It seemed like they had almost exactly the same schedules, though she did hear some rumors that some people had to take some additional classes if they didn’t know how to read and write and stuff like that. She didn’t exactly know when those classes were, but at the end of the day she had to pick some kind of time to rent all the equipment and shit and decided Saturday was as good a time as any.
There was this big common area of in the girl’s dorm that was rarely, if ever used. It had a lot of space and a big old flat screen TV there, and with some asking around Elena was able to fill up most of it with a decent amount of stuff. There was a nice special at the local grocery store so she was able to get the plastic cups and snacks and soft drinks pretty cheaply in bulk. Chips, those cheese stick things, and a bunch of other things that she wasn’t really sure what they were but were cheap lined some fold-out tables she had gotten from facilities. It was amazing how much shit they had lying around in closets on campus if you just asked nicely.
In front of the TV was some dance pads with some sort of dance game where you stepped on arrows or something – she rented it from a game store because she liked the packaging on it. It looked super flashy on the packaging, so why the hell not? As long as it wasn’t destroyed or anything the cost wouldn’t be that much, either. There were a couple of card games that she found in the closets too that she stacked on top of each other in the corner with some board games as well, because they weren’t doing a lot of good just sitting there and collecting dust. One of the games that looked particularly interesting was basically just people drawing cards of characters and traits and arguing which one would win in a fight. She had pulled out one set just to see what was there and got ‘an adorable talking cat’ that was ‘wielding a large silver revolver’ and also ‘had a boomerang’. The opponent would have been a ‘demon butler’ armed with ‘a chainsaw death scythe’ who also ‘had a nosebleed’.
Elena would put her money on the talking cat with the range, depending on distance, but it would be a fun sort of exercise to get people talking if people wanted to engage with that. This was the secondary common area so didn’t get much traffic, but she did send a message through the student chat to see if she could drum up some interest. At the end of the day even if nobody came there was nobody on this planet that could say she didn’t at least attempt to socialize with these people, and thus any guilt at not knowing anyone would be assuaged completely. One social event organized a year was good enough for her, and it was good to get it out of the way early while the bar was still insanely low. It couldn’t be the worst social gathering if there were no other ones to compare it to, eh?
The message fired off in public chat was as follows:
Her name would be attached to the message that was sent like every message sent through that channel, so she didn’t have to worry about tagging herself or anything. Elena actually went through the effort to look mostly like a human today just in case people actually did want to show up with a brown suede jacket alongside a white t-shirt and dark blue jeans with the knees all torn up for that grungy look that made it look like you didn’t care but you actually did care because you bought the jeans pre-torn up and it didn’t make much sense but was fashionable? Oh, and black boots too. She always preferred wearing boots because it made footsteps feel like they mattered, like you were stepping down with authority and not with all the force of a hummingbird setting down on a window sill somewhere. With a good set of boots, footsteps were audible and people could hear you coming.
Brown hair was done up in a ponytail as the girl flipped up another set of cards in that fictional fight game. The first one was a ‘Boy Band’ that were ‘riding a hoverboard’ and ‘armed with nun chucks’. The second one was a ‘zombie’ with a ‘skunk on a stick’ who was ‘riding a depressed centaur’. She hoped if anyone else joined in the fights would be less lopsided than this one, because the combination of a zombie and a centaur were obviously going to beat the shit out of a boy band with hoverboards. Nun chucks were melee weapons and they would have to get into bite range of the zombie to use them at all. If the centaur decided to do literally anything – and it probably would because getting smacked with nun chucks would be annoying as hell – the boy band would be completely wiped out in no time at all. Easiest argument to be made ever.
Maybe she should have made a sign to make it easier to find the room. She knew damn well that some of her classmates were directionally challenged, and she wasn’t thrilled at the prospect of finding those people out in the woods somewhere trying to find the mythical ‘girl’s dorm’ and instead falling off the mountain or something equally ridiculous.

Hey guys! I got together some snacks, drinks, and a couple games over in the ground floor common room in the girl’s dorm if anyone wanted to come and hang out. I feel like we haven’t had any kind of social outing to get to know each other outside of beating each other up, and I thought this might be as good a time as any. Anyone’s welcome to come, just wanted the opportunity to get to know everyone a bit better. (:
