As Qiu'li finished writing the last observation and slid the paper to Niraya, the professor had called time and was ready to move onto the next task... Which happened to have to do with what they had written down? Qiu'li was puzzled as to what it meant, but decided not to question it further as the answer would probably be found within what they would be assigned to do next. Immediately, his eyes narrowed at the professor when he said that they would be put into groups. Larger groups consisting of smaller pairings? What could this mean...?
The answer to that seemed a bit more clear as the professor declared that they were going to the training grounds. Moreso when he said that they should grab their weapons. Thankfully for Qiu'li, he always carried his weapons on him. Despite the existence of weapon lockers, Qiu'li kept Longtou and Panlong on his person since they fit decently enough on his person, and he preferred not to leave them out of his sight. Call it sentimental attachment or a paranoia of something potentially going wrong, but Qiu'li rarely is seen without them. However, since the situation arose, Qiu'li took the opportunity to swap his clothing into his more comfortable, fur-lined robes, red sash, and leather spaulders before meeting back up with Niraya at the training grounds.
The raven-haired man listened to the rules that were instated by the professor for this exercise. So each of their group consisting of the pairs were to eliminate each other through combat. However, there was the added condition of staying within the boundaries of the arena and going below 30% of their aura meant elimination. Urgh... Qiu'li frowned. This would be troublesome for him considering that it had to be at least 50% to activate his semblance. This meant that he couldn't go all-out on a blitz attack considering there would be another team waiting for him should he barely scrape by the first. His attention was soon shifted to the loud clinking noises as he noticed another item that the professor had introduced: hand restraints. It seemed like that they needed to complete this exercise while also being bound to their partner. Qiu'li gazed at them and turned to face Niraya. Seems like his speed wouldn't do much in this situation.
"Niraya. We should targeting ranged fighters first. You should use Semblance to help close distance between them." Qiu'li whispered to her. He walked over and picked up one of the restraints, inspecting it. Taking a second pair, Qiu'li walked back to Niraya to play around with it and figure out the mechanics of the locking mechanism while he let Niraya put it on them. He would offer whichever arm that Niraya preferred as he pointed to an X-marked position. Once Qiu'li and Niraya stood on their spot, he drew Longtou, his ringed broadsword as the metal rings clanged against the edge of the blade. Niraya knew the plan, now was a matter of how they would execute it under these circumstances. As soon as the professor gave the 'ok' Qiu'li would explode forward, attempting to match Niraya's pace as best as he could.

Niraya Platinum When snow falls, Nature listens.

Niraya had only a moment to look over what Qui'li had written as they exchanged their papers. "Nervous Polite Furry Considerate Smart" this is what was written down as Niraya looked at the notes she nods at each one she knew she was nervous around others. she tries her best to be polite even though most would treat her like a filthy animal. furry well that was on obvious she was a Faunus. Considerate well she tries to be though it tends to be misunderstandings. Smart well she did build an A.I. flying drone so there was that.
The teacher soon got everyone's attention and announced the next 'social event' it was to be held in the combat arena. so, in other words, it was just combat practice with a buddy. though if she is still paired with Qui'li she definitely would have a strong ally. though she didn't get a good look at how his semblance functioned she did notice he got brutally stronger the longer the fight went on. Her semblance made her more of a durable type but she has been pushing herself to run faster strike swiftly and minimize the need to let her armor take a hit for her. this would make her last longer in a fight but only time would tell if she was truly getting better.
they were dismissed to get whatever equipment they needed. Niraya had Crimson Heart with her as she didn't like walking around unarmed. her years on the streets of Mystral has taught her the value of a weapon when the world is against you. She gets up and heads to her room to wear something she was more comfortable in than the stuffy rather tight-fitting school uniform. When she walked into her room to change Jixie greets her and Niraya pets her for a bit before telling her what she was doing.
Once she was in her combat outfit she makes sure she had everything before heading for the combat arena. Once there she meets up with Qui'li who seemed to have a similar idea of changing uniforms. "Hey." She greets him but before he could reply the teacher speaks up with an unusual amount of enthusiasm. He has the pairs fight each other under simple conditions. ring out or low aura. simple enough to understand but then he tacked on something she wasn't expecting handcuffs. Niraya was a little taken aback by this twist. Qui'li the nice man that he is went and collected two of them. one for Niraya to attach themselves together with and the other to examine. Niraya cuffs her left arm to Qui'li's right.
Once that was set up she then takes her place with Qui'li on an X in the arena Qui'li whispered a plan to her. with her hearing, it was easy to hear even though they weren't directly next to each other. Niraya nods to shows she understands before pulling out her Crimson Heart. The red katana blade the red color was very similar to the blood which was an interesting thing considering what it would be used for. She had the blade in her right hand free from the cuffs, but in her left was the sheath. She has been using this style as it was both offensive and defensive with two weapons to strike to guard with.

Aegle's heart was all a flutter as she stepped into position beside Eva, the wrists of her right and the princess' left joined by a thin silver chain. She'd insisted on the arrangement, so that Eva's dominant hand would be free at least. For Aegle, left or right, it didn't make much of a difference, she was equally useless with both. Should things come down to a brawl, maybe she could contribute, but Aegle had a sneaking suspicion that this fight would be decided at range first and, lacking any ranged capabilities of her own, it had been all the more important that Evangeline be go as unobstructed as possible. She wasn't actually all that sure how she could help, given the conditions of the exercise, but she was compelled more than ever to do what she was able, what with Eva's description of her still fresh in the crooked girl's mind.
Few had been the opportunities for Aegle to hear something nice about herself, and Eva had nothing, for the most part, but positive things to say. Persistent and Hones, Spirited and Amie. From anyone else it would have seemed like artful flattery but, from Eva, it had all been from the heart; Aegle couldn't let her down, even if it seemed her own role in the fight to come would be to hold the blonde atlesian back. She had not failed to notice how their pairing compounded their relative weaknesses. Eva favored ranged combat while Aegle could only possibly be useful in melee. Eva, whose style of combat was extremely mobile, Aegle, who could not run to save her life. Eva, with her useful semblance, Aegle, with none to speak of...
She might have thought it was intentional, if she'd been able to spot such a disparity in the other teams, but there did not seem to be one. Though she knew little and less about how Qiu'li and the faunus, Niraya, fought, she knew they were both melee combatants, as agile and quick as they were lethal with their chosen weapons. Perhaps neither was the strongest person in their class, but they were both accomplished when it came to close ranged fights, from what Aegle has seen. The same could be said for Carmim and Elena, who both had extremely powerful and useful semblances. Carmim's, Aegle was well familiar with for its destructive capability, while Elena's was so versatile that she did not even bother with a weapon of her own, and instead exclusively used her spooky shadow constructs. Both of them were extremely dangerous at range, with skills which complimented one another.
As usual, it seemed Aegle was the odd one out, more of an inconvenience than a useful part of her team. If their team was not the first to be eliminated, it would only be because team Semblance and team Melee decided to focus on one another first.
"Try to stay behind me, aye?" Aegle whispered quietly as she stepped in front of Eva, wishing she had more to contribute and knowing she did not. If Niraya and Qiu'li came for herself and Eva first, they could do little more than stand and fight; Trying to outrun the big man, with his long and powerful legs, or the fleetfooted faunus, would be pointless. If Carmim and Elena decided to make them their first target, Aegle was not sure what they could do. The smartest thing would be for both of the well-balanced teams to focus on Eva and Aegle, eliminating them before turning on one another, and thereby preventing the pair from sitting out the worst of the fighting, and Aegle had to prepare for that worst case. words - 616 total - 2,433
The teacher of this class was... Weird, to say the least. Now that Evangeline actually put her focus on him for a bit, she was genuinely creeped out to say the least. And for some odd, vague reason, the man actually reminded her of her dear friend Carmim. Was it perhaps the obsession with red? With suits? Was it because both of them had similar smiles? It was difficult to tell.
But then the class was on the move, and Evangeline had scurried to gather her weapons before joining the others on the field. When the handcuffs had come out, Evangeline's eyes had widened. Was this... Was this some elaborate joke? But no, apparently, as Van Sange explained the basis of the exercise... Well, it made sense. It was like fighting with a challenge. Evangeline's eyes went to Qiu'li once more, unable to help but feel bitter about how he was interacting with Niraya.
She allowed her left wrist to be cuffed to Aegle's right wrist, holding her violin with her left hand. Evangeline's violin crossbow could be used with a single hand if needed, but generally was only grabbed by her left hand when she was playing it for her semblance. The handcuffs gave enough leeway for her to use it as a crossbow, but dragging it up to play would be difficult.
Evangeline nodded when Aegle told her to stay behind her, stepping behind her friend, close enough that as she snapped open Lis Fleurissant into its crossbow form, she held up it over one of Aegle's shoulders off to her right. Prepared and ready... But who to shoot at? Who did she fire at first? The match started but Evangeline didn't move, waiting to see how the other teams would play out first.

HAVE YOU SEEN HER? HAVE YOU HEARD? THE WAY SHE MOVES, THERE ARE NO WORDS
Red, Cheese, Short, Drum, Upset.
Those were the five words Elena had used to describe Carmim, and honestly, they weren't off-base at all. Red was probably her second-favorite color, and basically the color of her entire life, she was a big fan of cheese, in any and all forms, she was short, she carried a drum, and yeah, she was a little upset at the moment. Her red eyes danced back over to Qiu'li, shooting him a fierce glare once more. Adulterous bastard. Or well. Kinda. She was pretty sure him and Eva weren't officially dating yet... But still! No doubt his cheating ways were causing all this strife. Poor Eva...
Unfortunately for Carmim, she would very soon be pitted against her best friend forever, and her crush. But also against the damnable cheater (with his eyes! His damn eyes!!) and the poor, unfortunate, innocent bystander, Niraya.
Van Sange announced that they would be moving outside, and she obliged easily, shooting her partner a smile, as they headed out. The pair of them had come prepared- Carmim was never without her weapon, and as far as she could tell, Elena didn't own one, so they could follow without having to break off and retrieve anything. It felt good to be prepared.
They made it outside and Van Sange was talking about how the fight would go, and all the rules, but Carmim was still focused on the dark haired boy, now handcuffed to Niraya, just as she was handcuffed to Elena. How dare he make Eva sad! She glanced over at her friend again, watching her face. She seemed a little less sad now, but Carmim was no fool- she knew Qiu'li had hurt her somehow, with his lecherous, wandering, gaze!
The fight began, and for a brief moment, everybody was in a bit of a stand-off, nobody making the first move. Well, fuck that noise.
She whispered to Elena a simple, "Cove' me," before swinging her leg and bringing her free hand down against Storyteller's drumhead in a fluid motion, launching her best shot at her most obvious target, the sound rocketing through the training area, like a bomb going off as the blast hurtled towards Qiu'li and Niraya.
Well, seems the fight had now begun, proper.
And now that she'd cracked off that fierce shot, she figured if his aura didn't break immediately, he'd be coming after her and Elena next. Unfortunately, she realized a bit too late that neither of them were especially mobile fighters. Which meant this might be a little difficult...
Wow, what an understatement.

This class was weird… but it was also required so everyone was just going to deal with it. They were expected to fight as a team, handcuffed for God only knows what reason, for the right to be not handcuffed anymore. She was pretty sure that this entire scenario was against at least one and probably more like ten or twenty rules that the school had because quite frankly the brunette couldn’t exactly imagine a scenario where any other teacher would play along. Someone like Shadecloak or the Doctor wouldn’t just let two students sit there and fiddle with fucking handcuffs for an entire class and being unable to do basic things like take notes or really do anything other than awkwardly sit there basically holding hands.
In fact, yeah. If anything, Shadecloak would probably just break them right there and the Doctor would have a fifty-fifty shot of stopping class to walk over and punch Van Sange in the face for disrupting her class. There was no way that shit was gonna fly, plus the metal didn’t even look that thick. She was sure that most people could cut at least the chain given a little bit of time and effort… though the part around the hand might be a little tougher. Oh well, problems for later if they didn’t end up winning. The match started without any preamble or forewarning, and Elena and Carmim spoke at nearly the same time.
”Fire upwards. I’ll play support.” the brunette would say, confidently. After all, she had just realized something that gave her reason to be confident. The sunny field made certain that she wasn’t able to really mount anything resembling a major offense, but her partner made sure that she didn’t have to. She could simply keep her own shadow and the shadow of Carmim in reserve for emergency defense, while using the shadows of her opponents to simply disable their opponents for long enough for the redhead to take them out with her extremely powerful offensive semblance.
The one thing that every single person had in common among those on the enemy teams was that none of them was partially strong physically. They had their own strengths, sure, but none of them were physically powerful on their own. None of them had a manipulator semblance, either, which meant that this should be very doable so long as Elena kept her aura in check and managed it properly. Out of the other groups, it looked like Aegle and Evangeline were going to just stay put and wait for the others to make their move. That worked just fine for Elena, because Qiu’li and Niraya charged forward at the very start of the exercise.
Carmim noticed it too and attacked them right away. Thankfully, the enemy team had lurched forward enough for them to be in Elena’s range as well. Unlike the redhead’s semblance, though, Shadow Construction didn’t need to originate from her body. The Vacuo native attempted to pre-empt Carmim’s attack by manipulating the shadow by the faunus and the Vale native’s feet and solidifying it into what amounted to the same material as trampolines were made out of. Most people didn’t exactly look down while running, so despite the fact that she didn’t have enough shadow to cover a wide area with the material she had more than enough to make sure their next steps were full of the stuff.
The only way that they’d avoid it, frankly, would be if they were staring down at their feet for some reason and had enough agility to jump to the side or backwards at the last second and the chances of that happening were so slim that it almost wasn’t worth thinking about. She could have used her own shadow to bolster the diameter of the trampoline material, but it would have also travelled in a way that was very obviously unnatural and probably would have tipped off at least one of the enemy duo that something was up and caused at least one of them to look down. By not reinforcing the shadows underneath them, it made the area effected smaller… but also made the surprise factor as large as it could have been.
Then she would blast them upwards, as hard as she could. At full blast, that was about fifteen meters off the ground. Unless either of them had a way to fly, well… it would be exceptionally hard for either of them to block any subsequent attacks coming from Carmim in the meantime. If they weren’t eliminated by the time, they hit the ground… well, the shadows underneath them foreshadowed exactly their landing position so it was child’s play to just do it again. It was a pretty heavy drain on Elena’s aura, taking about ten percent of it out of her every single time she did it…
But she wasn’t attacking. That was Carmim’s job, and two or three of the bounces was really all it would take for this to end in a win. If they somehow got out of that loop and close the distance, then Shadow Construction would provide a barrier in between the team of manipulators and the team of transformers that would need to be broken through in order for them to actually hurt either of them with the durability of bronze. This shield would take out twenty percent of Elena’s aura if it was forced to go up, but twenty percent was a hell of a lot better than being punched in the face.
As soon as Niraya and Qiu'li began moving towards the first time, he realized that this was an uphill battle. The raven-haired man gazed at the red-headed individual as she slammed her weapon, an instrument by the looks of it, and saw the area around her begin to distort and come hurling right towards them. Good lord, was this an unexpected situation they found themselves in. They were about half towards the duo when the blast came hurling towards them, which covered the entire area in front of them. Preparing to brace himself for impact, Qiu'li didn't even notice the ground before him morphing and sequentially launching them into the air for some reason immediately afterwards. Qiu'li gave a look of confusion and peered down briefly where they had been. The burst of air had passed them, and seeing the force of the attack from above, Qiu'li grimaced. Had they not been launched into the air, Qiu'li could have survived one, maybe two more hits after that. He wasn't sure about Niraya, which made the situation even worse, but that began to fade out of his mind as they began to descend towards them. Crap! In the air, they were practically defenseless to the red-head and the brunette. Should they simply take the fall, they would be defeated before they even reached the ground. Damnit, think! Qiu'li glared intensely as he called out to Niraya and lifted his staff overhead.
"Niraya. Transform and fire at them to prevent them from keeping up attack." The raven-haired man said as he hurled the staff towards Carmim as soon as Niraya began to fire her ice attacks. At the very least, the attacks would cause them to hesitate briefly enough for them to get a landing strategy down or a counterattack. If not, the impact would cause enough stone debris to distract them enough for a relatively rough landing. "Once you reach ground, must roll with shoulder to displace shock from feet across body, like I taught you last time, Niraya." Qiu'li said after hurling the staff. Whether or not they were able to time their landing depended on if they could reach the ground in one piece, but he would sync his landing with Niraya to avoid both of them losing their footing and potentially a lot more Aura than necessary due to a bad land.
Either way, this was going to be a fast battle to say the least.

Niraya Platinum When snow falls, Nature listens.
[attr="class","rainbow"]
Niraya hears a shout from a team and looks over in time to see a wave of energy coming there way. Niraya quickly flips onto Qui'li's back as they were launched upwards. by combining their mass they were throw up evenly instead of Niraya being launched faster and end up orbiting Qui'li due to the cuffs. This allowed Niraya to focus on attacking as Qui'li sugested. She didnt' activate her armor as that could wait she needed to focus on attacks. She channels the aura around her and balls of ice begin to appear around Qui'li and Niraya Niraya then launches several ice spikes into the balls which start to rain down sharp slivers of ice. Niraya was blanketing the whole arena in ice to disrupt any attempt to stop them from landing.
Once they were close to the ground Niraya kicks off of Qui'li's back holding her wrist out so Qui'li could land first. Niraya lands with a roll towards Qui'li using the cuffs to change her momentum thus minimizing the landing force. Niraya activates her symblance covering herself in ice armor. Niraya spots Carmim and Qui'li's spear Not giving them a moment to rest she fires an ice spike high into the air and then a second one that intercepts it raining even more ice shards onto the battlefield. though inaccurate it would provide a distraction long enough for Qui'li and Niraya to close the distance.
