Qiu'li
" Unmoving as the mountains, resilient as the crimson peaks.”"
Age 19 Gender Male Faction Haven Academy Tier Sophomore Face Claim Lon’qu, Fire Emblem: Awakening OOC Name Novakid |
Character Traits
Date of Birth: October 12th 6 AV
Species: Human
Hometown: Forever Fall
Romantic Orientation: Heterosexual
Hair Color/Style: Black, short, unkempt hair
Eye Color: Dark brown
Aura Color: Crimson red
Height: 184 cm
Weight: 78 kg
Appearance: Tall and intimidating, Qiu'li is often interpreted to have a permanent scowl on his face. His seemingly leering eyes, his rarely expressive mouth, and his piercing gaze gives him a villainous-like appearance. His linen clothes and light armor are reminiscent of the mountain tribesmen style that he had grown up with, save for the emblem attached to his crimson belt sash that Qiu'li received from his elders.
Aside from his heavy-fitted gauntlets, Qiu'li carries very little, which offsets the various scars that peek out from under his sleeve and the nape of his neck. He claims that most are from training, but the nature of his training is something that he seldoms discloses.
Personality: Qiu'li gaze is as intimidating as his height, and his personality matches it perfectly. Stoic, blunt, and somewhat abrasive, Qiu'li is as far from personable as a normal person could possibly be. His piercing looks often get him into trouble, and scares away most individuals of the opposite sex. As a result, he’s found himself isolated from others for the most part, which translates into his somewhat cold and unfriendly demeanor. Part of his quiet nature also stems from his monastic lifestyle that he had grown up with. His core values of answering when spoken to and remaining unseen and unheard tend to lend to these traits and has become a source of anxiety for him recently. Unable to make friends, let alone teammates, Qiu'li finds it difficult to find someone to confide in. When it comes to training, his relationship with his peers is platonic at best, doing only what needs to be done. He finds it difficult to communicate well or act friendly towards others, however he realizes that to become a Huntsman requires more than to be able to slay Grimm well.
Regardless of his cold and distant personality, Qiu'li is a reliable and skilled fighter. Despite his inability to speak for a lengthy amount of time, he makes up for it in his actions. He is resilient when faced with dilemmas, and willing to do what it takes to complete his job. Qiu'li dislikes being in the spotlight, and tends to avoid direct conflict due to the frequency of getting into conflicts as a result of his gaze. However, should his teammates end up in a life or death situation, Qiu-Li will not hesitate to run into certain danger to save them.

Combat & Inventory
Fènnù
Rank of Semblance: D
Semblance Type: Transformation
One Sentence Summary of Semblance:Fènnù(Fury) is a Transformation Semblance that increases his reflexes, strength, and allows him to perform a slash that sends out a projectile akin to a sword beam.
Description of Semblance: Upon suffering damage during combat, Qiu’li accumulates an amount of energy into his weapon, which is drained from his Aura. Sufficient accumulation, which is equivalent to half of his current total Aura, allows him to channel his Aura into his Semblance, Fènnù. After activation of Fènnù, which is indicated by streams of visible clouds of steam emitting off his skin, his reaction time increases significantly and his strikes feel heavier hitting in terms of raw strength. In addition, Qiu’li is able to materialize his Aura and concentrate it into the shape of his bladed weapon. Doing so, he can forcefully send out his aura in a crescent shaped beam of energy towards his enemies. The projectile beam can travel a distance approximately the length of a semi-truck (between 15-18 meters) and capable of breaking soft metal. Mechanically, Fènnù gives Qiu'li enhanced agility, strength, and a ranged attack when active which lasts a total of four posts followed by a three post cooldown.
Drawbacks of Semblance: The major drawback of his Semblance is the requirement to activate it: Qiu’li must take on attacks and accumulate damage in order to channel the impact and force of the attack into his weapon and by extension, himself. This becomes a huge risk as subsequent attacks will put him at greater risk for sustaining damage and does not bode well for long, drawn out battles. In order to send out his aura projectiles, Qiu’li must perform a full swing in order to send it out, which leaves him vulnerable to a counterattack or unable to do so in close quarter environments.
Hei Tiequán
Rank of Weapon(s): E
Description of Weapons(s): Hei Tiequán is a pair of grey and black metal tonfas that measure along the length of Qiu'li's arms, extending a little over on each side. The handles are wrapped in a crimson red cloth and the short end of the tonfa is tipped with a high density rubber top as per requested by Qiu'li. Since entering Haven Academy, Qiu'li had realized that, more than anything, adaptability is the most important factor when it comes to being a true Huntsman. With the adaptable forms that Hei Tiequán can take when it comes to combat, Qiu'li also relies on it's secondary, more familiar form: It's staff form. Combining the two short ends of the tonfa extends the long end into a 2 meter long bo staff which gives him a significant amount of range and opens a host of new maneuverable techniques that is reminiscent of his unique fighting style.

Combat Abilities
Name of Combat Ability: Weapon Proficiency II (Martial Arts)
Rank of Combat Ability: E
Description of Combat Ability: Qiu'li has grown up in a hardened life of survival and adaptability. When one lives in an environment where the unexpected is common and survival is an uncertainty, understanding how to use one’s weapon is the difference between life and death. Although he has some proficiency with his weapon, Qiu’li has a long road to achieve a master of his art.
Since his arrival to Haven Academy, Qiu'li had experienced various forms of fighting styles and techniques. While his current style is reminiscent of his ruggish style back home of improvised attacks and swift transformations, Qiu'li has refined his skills which allows him to strike more effectively while moving. While not nearly as strong of an impact, versatility and swift strikes are his preference.
Name of Combat Ability: Dance of the Wild Winds II (Acrobatics)
Rank of Combat Ability: E
Description of Combat Ability: Growing up in a mountainous range and facing numerous threats every day has increased Qiu’li’s need to adapt to the terrain and learn how to both travel and fight on uneven grounds. From being able to climb cliffs, scale buildings, and run up walls, Qiu'li knows how to move effectively. Since his arrival to Argus, Qiu'li has honed his acrobatic ability. His maneuverability while carrying equipment has improved, his ability to scale vertical walls has also improved as he can now scale much higher distances, and Qiu'li is able to land safely from much higher distances, increasing his overall versatility.
Name of Combat Ability: Wolf-Style: Pounce [Leap]
Rank of Combat Ability: C
Description of Combat Ability: Adopted from the movements of foes like the Beowolves, Qiu'li has branched out and developed a unique style of travel both inside and outside of combat: Standing low to the ground, Qiu'li takes on a stance that seems reminiscent of a wolf. With power, Qiu'li springs forward, reaching his destination in seconds. As a result, Qiu'li can leap across wide gaps and clear long distances of around 25-30 meters. At what point will he become less like man, and more like beast?
Name of Combat Ability: Resilience of the Crimson Oaks II (Durability)
Rank of Combat Ability: E
Description of Combat Ability: "The body is a vessel, and within the vessel is one's soul. The soul is fragile, weak, and delicate. However, the soul is a fleeting source of energy that gives one life. The soul is precious, and all living beings contain a soul within their vessels; for once the vessel is broken, the soul escapes, and then the vessel is devoid of life. Therefore, one must train their vessel to protect the soul. If the soul is the sword, then the vessel is the shield." Since his arrival to Haven, Qiu'li has taken these words to heart with his morning training exercises as he pushes his aura to the limit. With each strike, he feels himself becoming tougher. But is the the right path towards true strength?
Name of Combat Ability: Dragon's Roar II (Weapon Utility)
Rank of Combat Ability: E
Description of Combat Ability: When left with little but bare materials, one is forced to come up with unique ways to surprise and overcome their opponents. Such is the thought process that Qiu'li had upon creating the Dragon's Roar: A roll of interconnected firecrackers that is held together by a fast ignition fuse. It is activated once the fuse is lit through use of a small pair of flint and steel pieces sewn into his gauntlets or through another fire source. What results is a bright display of flashing lights and loud, simultaneous explosions. Keeping two rolls per battle that are fastened under his sleeves, the tool makes for a good distraction both inside and out of combat. Dust is a luxury reserved for those capable of utilizing it effectively or those who can afford to carry an excess of it. Qiu'li falls under neither of those categories, therefore he does what he does best: Improvise.
Mechanically, Dragon's Roar is a tool that distracts targets caught within range of it (12 meters) for one post cycle each roll, or two post cycles maximum. For the duration of those post cycles, enemy agility that is E rank or below is lowered by one rank.

Biography
History
North of Vale is a mountainous area filled with many cliffs and is shrouded by a forest of red-leafed trees, causing the whole area to appear as a dust-red color. This region is known as Forever Fall. Despite the beautiful scenery, Forever Fall is hardly a place one would consider a safe place to live. Thieves, Grimm, and other lurking threats inhabit the unforgiving region, and those that stray off the paths are often never seen again. Deep within the forests of Forever Fall is the Village of Luòyè: A permanent home for what was once a nomadic tribe. While the circumstances leading up to the decision for a nomadic tribe to take residence within an unforgiving territory has been left to the tight lipped Elders, the nature of adaptability had never left the tribesmen, and there their lives began anew.
Here within the village was where Qiu’li was born and raised by his mother Feng and his father Zhang. Like all the villagers, they were both fighters that had fallen madly in love with each other during their younger years and eventually married. Despite the harsh environment that he was forced to grow up in, Qin’li was raised with love and affection from his mother during his infancy while his father took on double the duties of guarding the village. For a time, life was manageable. That is, until one night, when a pack of large dog-shaped Grimm descended upon Luòyè village. Although the villagers were prepared for a fight, there were still several casualties. Feng was among them, dying to protect a young Qiu’li who watched as the life drained from his mother’s face.
Zhang had fought many beasts several times his size, suffering many wounds and scars. Yet nothing left as large a lesion as the loss of his beloved, left by himself to raise their only child. Distraught and unsure, Zhang tried to raise Qiu’li to the best of his ability. However, he had a duty to protect the village. Growing up Qiu’li was not spared a moment in leisure. The moment he was able to hold a sword with both of his hands, Qiu’li trained gruelly with Zhang, pushing him beyond the limits of what a child could do, despite the growing concerns of his local colleagues. To many, they saw a broken man who was taking out his frustration on his son. To Zhang, he rationalized his actions by claiming that he was going to raise a son who would take over his role as the defender of this village.
To Qiu’li, this felt like a punishment. Was he at fault for causing the death of his mother? His father’s lover? If he hadn’t existed, would Feng still be alive? Each day passed anxiously as he foreboded the time his father would come home and demand the time to “train.” He never recovered from the trauma of watching his mother die, and those close to his age distanced themselves from him due to his inability to communicate with others. In addition to his father’s “training,” nobody dared approach him out of fear of sparking Zhang’s developed short temper. Eventually, the pressure was too much and he fled his home in a fit of fear and anger, the last thing he saw of the village was his father desperately trying to chase him with a face he had never seen before. Eventually, Qiu’li found himself lost within Forever Fall, surrounded by the familiar crimson red leaves that gave the land it’s dust-red appearance.
Armed with a heavily worn broadsword, Qiu’li wandered, fighting off small packs of Grimm while fleeing from larger packs and various bandit groups, until he exhaustively collapsed in front of a river. As he felt the last of his Aura drain away and his consciousness fading, he saw a pair of ragged sandals and tattered cloth appear before him. When Qiu’li awoke, he found himself in a small hut and was greeted by a man in heavily tattered robes. The man said nothing as he slid a bowl of porridge towards him and motioned Qiu’li to eat. The man was a travelling monk named Satotta, who happened to come across him just as he was about to pass out.
Satotta did not question Qiu’li, nor did he demand where he came from. He simply provided company as he spent his days meditating. “To control one’s emotions and hold themselves steadfast in the face of adversity is what it means to be strong.” Satotta would answer whenever Qiu’li questioned his meditation. Curious, he decided to join him during his meditation. What did it mean to be strong? Qiu’li wondered as he thought back to his father’s words. For the time being, he adopted Satotta’s monastic lifestyle, surviving on the bare minimum and spending his day meditating as well as training. While he could never land a hit on Satotta, who was armed only with a simple staff, Qiu’li pressed on, no matter how many times he cursed the sky and decided to give up.
10 years later, Qiu’li had came to his own conclusion of what strength meant. However, to achieve it meant to overcome the anxiety that plagues his mind. While hunting one morning, Qiu’li pondered how he would manage to achieve his inner strength. Distracted, he had run into a pack of ferocious Grimm. Heavily injured, Qiu’li watched as the Grimm approach closer to him. Just as he was about to watch his life end once more, a loud BANG cracked across Forever Fall. In the distance, a figure stood wielding a firearm. Qiu’li watched in amazement as the figure dispatch the Grimm with ease, transforming their rifle into a bladed weapon and back. In a sudden instinct to ask him how the figure managed to become strong, the figure merely replied to him before disappearing: “Enroll in the Huntsman Academies. There’s many more stronger than me that trained there. I hear Haven is looking for new recruits. Maybe you’ll find the answer you're looking for.”
After returning to Satotta, Qiu’li mulled over his choices. If he remained in Forever Fall, he would never grow beyond his normal capabilities. Though he could choose to live like his master and seek a simplistic lifestyle, Qiu'li knew that doing so would mean to forfeit his meaning to exist. He would constantly live anxiously, trying to figure out how to overcome his personal fears. However, he had never traveled outside the comforts of his red-colored home. The outside was a daunting place, one that he knew little about. Upon relaying his worries to Satotta one morning after their meditation, Satotta seemed troubled. After days of silence, Satotta presented to him a small burlap sack and a meager amount of money.
“Seek the path which broadens your mind. To wrest control of your inner self while it is as wide as an ocean is a sign of true strength.”
With humble gratitude, Qiu’li set out of the comforts of Forever Fall, the next morning. He followed the map provided to him by Satotta south, which lead out of the forests and towards a road that lead to civilization. This would be the first step towards a long and grueling journey of self-reflection and a desire to seek true strength.
His destination: Argus.
