[break][attr="class","nikki102"]BUT IN THE END, IT HAS TO BE THIS WAY
[attr="class","nikki109"]Russet was hard at work tracking down the beowolves, which was good. Her transmission came in loud and clear. ”I’ll leave you to it, out.” was the response, and she held in place. A large and public gathering of people meant that some shit was destined to go down, and part of the problem was reacting to the right thing. [break][break]
Beowolves were a threat so small that anyone could take care of it. She wasn’t required there, not with how high profile this was and how many heavy hitters were in the area. The Kozaks weren’t paid for being flashy in this instance, so there was no reason to be on her end. Looking around, it was clear to see they had a lot of firepower. [break][break]
The scared cop lizard girl was there. The redhead that threw the lupo across town was there. The blonde with the speed semblance was there. There were some others that she recognized from being from Haven like the blue haired guy, and while there was the thought that one of them might implode and start trying to murder everyone around them… actually, no. That was the main concern. A gross overreaction that ended up killing bystanders and causing a panic was super in character for that group. They could reduce Grimm to atoms as much as they wanted, but if someone looked at them wrong they might also get pounded into paste… and with so many people without aura in the area that was a real concern. Collateral damage could be super high, and while she was surveying the area there was this extremely loud bang which she quickly identified as a log being let loose from a crane, likely due to rope failure. [break][break]
No. Not rope failure. The damn thing was out of control, and while Alina could incinerate the thing and stop the damage it would then make the crane inoperable. ”Sienna, get the crane under control. Out.” [break][break]
Someone then shouted about Grimm coming from the west, and Alina almost fell for it. In fact, the only reason she didn’t was because she knew she could afford to be slower in her response due to the amount of people suited for ripping apart lesser Grimm around the area. The former soldier had zero problem letting glory hounds have their due, because that was the least dangerous spot overall for them to be. Massive overkill on Grimm was no issue, and even a desirable outcome. [break][break]
There were a lot of things weird, upon a closer look. The ones who were panicking and running were one thing, but then there were those who used the chaos to lurch forward and reach for unattended stuff. Alina didn’t have anything against theft, really, and had done more than her fair share in the past as well. There was a time and a place for that, though, and making the defenses of the capital weaker wasn’t it. There was a group of them, though, and if she just rushed one – like the one who pocketed a bunch of tools in their inner jacket pockets – the others would just flee. They would all meet up together at some point, and Alina just had to shadow them until that happened. [break][break]
Given how she was already in the background when this transpired, it was pretty easy to keep at least one fleeing civilian in between her and the target she identified. She didn’t say a word or make it obvious she was following anyone – both so the thieves wouldn’t notice her until it was too late and so the Haven trainees wouldn’t notice what was going on until it was too late. This situation could be solved with ultraviolence and a lot of death, but that wasn’t the preferred outcome to this. [break][break]
They all converged on what must have been their rendezvous point behind a stack of lumber, and it was only then when Alina stepped out and blocked their exit. The crowd around them and the assorted materials laying around meant that mobility was restricted, and the only directions was through Alina to freedom and the outside or the complete opposite direction towards the Grimm. ”Hello.” she’d say, not raising her voice in the slightest to let them know she was there. It was rare that she felt like her stealth was perfect, but this was one situation where it was. There were four thieves in total, and they had quite a haul. Three of them had quick reactions and pulled out guns and shot them at her torso, aiming for center mass. [break][break]
Unfortunately for them, neither their weaponry nor their skill was enough for that to be threatening. Left hand reached out and pawed at the bullets as they flew in the air, grabbing them and tossing the still usable rounds back at their shooters. ”So,” the wolf faunus started, moving her left hand to the hilt of her sword and audibly cracking it open with her thumb. ”We could fight here, or you could just drop all your shit and leave.” They were slack jawed, and obviously trying to process what had just happened. The fear in their eyes was predictable, but one went from shock to disbelief rather than fear.[break][break]
That one decided to take another shot at her, then, and she pawed the bullet out of the air with her right hand and tossed it right back in his face. He dropped his gun and threw up his hands immediately afterwards. ”Just drop all the shit and get out. I’ll search before I let you through, and if I find anything you forgot to drop I’ll just shoot you and see how well you catch.” [break][break]
Amazingly enough, all four dropped everything they had stolen and also their firearms to avoid the risk of death to someone who had caught their bullets twice. They also didn’t trust the word of a masked and heavily armored up random and booked it as soon as they made it past Alina. She didn’t mind that, frankly, because it lowered the chances that they’d actually come back. Only after the last of them had gone did the former soldier sheath her sabre entirely and lean over to pick up two handfuls of random shit to start bringing back over. As soon as she crossed the line back into the crowd of people she flagged down the nearest people and said: ”I think someone dropped a container of stuff or something back there. Can I get some help getting it back to the main area?” [break][break]
They ignored her, of course, on account of panicking from the imminent Grimm attack. Panicking and running, like a normal person. [break][break]
She tried, at least, even if she didn’t succeed. She was going to have to carry all that shit back, which was going to be a giant pain in the ass. [break][break]
