[attr="class","nikki109"] Now there were two beacons of negative emotion on the wall, which would obviously in no way whatsoever increase the chances for Grimm to target the secondary northern gate at all. [break][break]
Except that Grimm were attracted to negative emotions in particular, so of course they’d be attracted to the highest concentration of it in the area. The radio was much more active than before, with Grimm sightings on the southern and western ends being particularly strong as a residual effect from the bandit camp being raided and negative emotions running wild in that direction. The eastern end of the city was encountering mild but consistent attacks, kept busy but not in any significant danger. [break][break]
If anyone was looking in the distance at the road that led up to the gate, though, they would see a few dark figures that were low to the ground that were fast approaching. A few seconds later they would be close enough to hit the hundred meter clearing outside of the gate and thus much more easily to be easily identified as beowolves. Dropping to all fours and running as fast as their legs could take them, they would be upon the gate soon. It was another group of four of the same variety as before, smaller but with their red eyes glowing with feral hatred and staring straight up at the trainees on the wall. Gaping maws were wide open with rows of razor sharp white teeth shoving with slobber falling off of their disgusting tongues flapping about as they sprinted forward. [break][break]
Behind the lesser beowolves and knocking down a tree or two along the way, however, lumbered a far more dangerous threat. The creatures were similar in overall appearance with the beowolf, with black fur and bony spikes on their backs and arms, as well as white, bone-like masks with red detailing, but are much larger and stockier. With bony plates on their back and limbs, the pair of creatures were absolutely enormous. Down on all fours, their malevolent red eyes looked straight up the wall as their feline ears twitched as they started their much slower advance against Mistral’s capital. While the smaller beowolves would make the hundred yard dash from the fringes in around fifteen seconds, these larger creatures would take about twenty-four seconds to do the same thing. [break][break]
The larger ones, though, would pose a problem. While an Ursa was comfortable taller than the biggest trainee in height, the biggest difference was in width. The creatures were a hulking mass of muscle and armor, and quite frankly the standard guideline for first-years was to disengage and call for backup. In a situation like this, however, the first part was much easier said than done. The second part was very easy to do, but with the barrage of attacks all over the city help might take some time to arrive… and it wasn’t like the Grimm were too keen on waiting. [break][break]
What the trainees who paid attention in Grimm related classes would know is that while they still have the weak spot under their belly that is unprotected, the natural toughness of the Ursa shines through if the attack is not delivered with sufficient force. For most first years, that meant that something like their semblance was required to make a dent in anything other than the monster’s belly – or extremely heavy duty firepower like the turret. While they are noticeably bigger and stronger, they are not significantly faster than the normal Ursai and that fact could be taken advantage of rather easily. All of this information was readily available and memorized by anyone who took classes for any length of time or had experience, but the concept of attacking the soft underbelly of something strong enough to certainly tear down the wall or even maybe the gate itself given enough time and enough durability to be compared to steel was much easier said than done.
