Professor Jay sat at his desk. Currently, he was scanning through the roster of his class once again, memorizing his students' names to the best of his ability. He sighed silently to himself, they all seemed so young.
Dark eyes wandered to look at a currently unoccupied desk, students were already filing in casually talking or looking through their own scrolls. Class was about to start very soon. He blinked a few times, before focusing on a ghost of a memory. It was springtime. Sunlight shone through the window. He saw a young man sitting at his desk quietly looking over some notes. Suddenly he was then bombarded by a trio of girls.
His teammates. Team RBYN.
“Hey, studying already? Wait… don’t tell me there’s a quiz?!”
“Uh, Bleu… h-how do you do this problem again?”
“Here Yancy, it’s like this. You take ‘x’ and-”
“Oh gee… Good thing you’re the smart one, Blue Bird.”
He paused, sitting up a bit straighter as a rolled around his right shoulder. It felt… a bit sore that day, not an unusual thing to happen ever since his injury so many years ago. It had a tendency to flare up, especially during the winter. Maybe it had another tendency to feel sore when he thought about his old team. If that was the case, then he wouldn’t be surprised if it just constantly bothered him while he was at Haven. And yes, here he was at Haven. It seemed so long since he’d even set foot on the campus. Some things had changed, quite a lot of it hadn’t.
He had changed a lot since back then.
Yancy and Natalia had been gone for years. And then Robin had been lost in the Fall. Haven had been desperate for faculty and now students. It was hard to believe they had come to him. He hadn’t taken up Huntsmen duties in nearly a year when the Academy had reached out to him. He hadn’t kept up with a lot of what the world was going through. It was in that same message he first learned that Robin died too. So that was it, he was the last one of RBYN. RBYN, the winners of the Vytal Festival. RBYN, the team made of Sanctum’s finest. RBYN, was now gone. It was all ancient history.
He said yes to the position. He took up Robin’s former course, Grim Strategies & Self-Defense. But he wasn’t teaching that course today. Today consisted of a general education class, Mathematics. While it was a Huntsmen Academy, students still needed their general education and were expected to still get a full scholarly experience. He waited a few more moments, even a full few minutes after the time class was supposed to begin.
After it seemed like everyone who would be attending his class made it to their seats, Jay would stand up and introduce himself. He tipped his fedora style hat, wearing his usual dark blue suit and professional looking attire. The messiest part about him seemed to be his raven blue hair.
“Welcome to General Mathematics. I’m Professor Jay. And yes, besides this general education course I’ll also be your Grim Self-Defense and Combat Strategies instructor. So we’ll all certainly be seeing each other again there.” He gave a rather casual smile, standing at attention with his hands behind his back. “A little bit about me, I’m an Argus native, I also graduated from Haven quite a few years ago and then Sanctum Academy even more years before that. I used to be an active Huntsmen, but a bad shoulder injury stopped me short in my career. I like coffee, some bad jokes, and I’ve never been a professor before and never really expected to be one. But, as they say, there’s a first time for everything.”
He added a bit of a casual laugh at the end of his words. It was still hard for him to hear most others call him ‘Professor,’ because as he said aloud, he had never believed that he would take up being a teacher. There was a bit of humility to his words as well, given the fact the reason he was here was because of the Fall. It was the reason why all of them were there, it was something he didn’t need to explain but its shadow was still over the room.
He breathed out once. Looking around, he then raised a hand to signal the main viewing screen of the class. “Alright everyone, so for the first day of class, we’re going to have a little quiz!” He waited another moment to receive the inevitable groans or sighs of shock. “Now, don’t worry, this is really just a survey quiz. Many of you come from different backgrounds and schoolings.. And well, some of you not at all… But that’s alright too. We’ve all got to start somewhere! I’m going to show a problem on the main board and then you’ll each of you will have to answer them. We’re going to be covering a wide array of topics with varying levels of difficulty, so it’s alright if you don’t know the answer to every question, just answer to the best of your ability!”
ALong wtih another click, a problem was shown on screen.
Welcome to General Mathematics! This is going to be a relaxed open class topic with no post order. Students must answer the question and submit their answer electronically via a scroll [smart tablet] synced to the class. Only Haven Academy Students may participate in this thread!
This thread is expected to last roughly 3-4 rounds and characters are free to interact with each other as they answer the questions!
As this is a narrated thread with a Faculty NPC, all participating characters get 20% increase in XP
