0345hrs. [break][break]
The past few hours were absolutely hell. [break][break]
The Grimm attacks increased in both number and duration, with the breaks between attacks becoming less and less as time went on. Exhaustion, both physical and mental, came and went as the hours went by. The latter was perhaps more enduring than the former, which was arguably even more dangerous. [break][break]
The western wall was sieged by Ravagers, Ursa Minors, Ursa Majors, Manticores, Death Stalkers, and the occasional King Taijitu. It was this wall which fell first, hours ago, due to the combined factors of the militia taking too long to regain awareness after being taken off the drugs and the fundamental distrust the defenders had of each other on that side. Colton absolutely refused to let Carmim or Qiu’li behind him, and Carmim did the same for Qiu’li. The Vale native could definitely notice the distrust and short tempers of both towards him, but never quite connected the dots as to why. The best they were able to accomplish was to hastily fortify buildings in order to stall the Grimm advance, ceding ground as slowly as possible as the buildings were destroyed around them. The drugged villagers tended to be unable or unwilling to defend themselves or flee, so they got ripped to shreds because of it in this sector. [break][break]
This was where the bloodiest and nastiest fighting was, and it was only because of Jack’s ability to heal aura every so often that they were able to last as long as they did. Carmim relied almost entirely on her semblance to attack anything, so she would go back to the Floaters pretty often for healing. Qiu’li would come back the second most often, usually after his semblance was spent and he needed to be topped up. Colton would come back the least, because he both used his semblance the least and had the biggest reserve of stamina to keep fighting for longer relying on his martial ability first and foremost to avoid using his semblance except with the strongest enemy Grimm to have as much staying power as possible. All eight militia on this side died fairly early on, so it was mostly the trainees supported by the floaters who held this side of Rochdale. [break][break]
The eastern wall was sieged by Ravagers, beowolves both large and small, Sabyrs, Alphas, and the occasional Death Stalker. This was the wall who fell last and stood for a much longer period of time than the western or northern walls. Because the de-drugging process had started many hours before the Grimm attacked, the militia were lucid enough to meaningfully contribute and make full use of their enhanced weaponry and turrets in a way that the Western side simply wasn’t able to do. In fact, it took until the Alphas and Death Stalkers started coming at once for even the first few militia members to die and that was only after the ammo in all of the turrets had been exhausted. The combination of Kishka’s tactical acumen and Nasrin shielding through any mistakes the militia made allowed them to hold for an absurdly long amount of time, but eventually exhaustion got to them just as it got to everyone else. [break][break]
Because this group lacked the standup fighting ability of the western wall, they were beaten back much faster once their wall was fully breached. Because they held out for so long, however, the eastern wall had the fewest casualties thus far and had held the most land out of everyone. While they were unable to stand and fight to stem the tide of Grimm coming in, they did buy even the drugged-up residents of their sector enough time to regain enough lucidity to actively flee to the center of town and make it more likely for them to survive. Argent did the vast majority of the damage with his area of effect semblance and needed to go to Jack for healing the most out of everyone as a result of burning through his aura so much. Nasrin needed to come back the second most, largely because making sure Kishka didn’t get swarmed and die once Argent was forced to retreat ate up all of her aura. Kishka, as the person who relied on her semblance the least was the trainee with the most time on the Eastern wall and because of that and her tactical ability she still had two militia members left in the present time due to them following her orders instantly on instinct at this point. [break][break]
The floaters had to deal with largely the Ravagers and lesser beowolves that made it past either wall and the Lancers and Nevermore Chicks who started to come in waves from the sea as well. While Jack largely took care of topping up the aura of trainees who swung by and occasionally flew out to go to them, Holly stuck by with the militia more and vastly increased their survivability through her first aid skills. They took a while to get out of the drug-induced haze to get lucid enough to fend for themselves, but frankly once they did, they were a real help even without the weapon upgrades that the west and southern contingents had. Holly’s value was less in the combat side of things, though she did step in when needed, but her medical ability and the fact that she was in a central enough location with the knowledge of which buildings were fortified and which weren’t. Especially as the drugs started to wear off, she was able to direct people to the safest possible locations that could withstand attack from a stray Ravager, Beowolf, or Lancer that made it past the defenses. [break][break]
Because they joined forces with a group of villagers who were not taking emotion dampeners, the floater group was able to bolster their numbers further and cause the center of the occupied territory as safe as it reasonably could be as well as being able to rotate patrols much more efficiently. Colton managed to snag a few of the better rifles from the western wall to equip the family to improve their capabilities, which only made them more useful and more capable of taking down the numerous Ravagers who broke through the defenses on a regular basis. [break][break]
What none of them were equipped to deal with, though, was the Sea Feilong that decided to wake up about fifteen minutes ago and had been strafing with its breath weapon which happened to be a beam of lightning from around fifty meters in the air ever since it decided to start the party. It wasn’t accurate, but it also didn’t need to be because the breath weapon was enough to saw through even fortified buildings with ease… as it proved when it completely destroyed the elder’s fortified building in its very first strafe. This was the single biggest issue facing the group at this moment, because as long as that thing was up in the air… well, the airship would simply be destroyed if it got close. Nobody had the range to deal with it, and there wasn’t a structure still standing in the village tall enough to make up the difference. [break][break]
The second largest problem facing the students is that the mountain had gained considerable ground in the past few hours since it woke up… to the point where it had already passed inside the wreckage of the western wall and was slowly making its way to the area the trainees were trying to hold. The mountain itself was enormous, reaching roughly fifty meters in the air and consisting of a truly immense quantity of stone in all four of its limbs. Once the faunus got a good look at it, it fit the profile of a petra gigas except… at least an order of magnitude bigger. [break][break]
The estimated time for arrival for the airship was fifteen minutes, but either of these threats could slap the airship out of the sky before it ever made a landing. With the ever-shrinking amount of available area the trainees could operate on without being swarmed, this was becoming harder and harder because there were so few landing spots for an airship to even hover above at this point. Hundreds of villagers had already perished, but everyone remaining would also die if these threats were not at least momentarily neutralized so the airship could pick the trainees up without getting blown to pieces.
